Many years ago I shot on a rifle team and the ROTC team. But then shooting became lower priority as life progressed. Now I am interested in shooting again and go frequently with my son to shoot my revolvers. But I guess I am old school. I'm not interested in the fast draw or timed events. I would just like to shoot for accuracy. Is there such competition for revolvers these days.

You could shoot bullseye matches. Depending upon what you mean by "timed" you might also like shooting man on man bowling pin or steel plate matches.

You could check for PPC matches. Many of them will let non-Police personnel shoot them.

Just shoot a local IDPA match in your area and strive for accuracy and don't worry about the time. You'd be surprised how quickly you pick up speed. I always strive to be one of the most accurate shooters in our matches and I still manage to beat a bunch of the plastic gun shooters.

Today I shot in and won my club's bowling pin match.
S&W 625 revolver.
45 Auto Rim loaded with 255 grain LSWCs cleans the table with ease.
I use this pair in all sorts of matches. Which one depends on whether optics or open sights are specified.

Wow, you sound just like me.

I'm thoroughly confused by the alphabet-soup of organizations and competitions. For instance: For which ones do you need to make major, which allow moon clips, more than 6, etc.

I've been researching and found a local action shooting organization. I noticed a post about having to keep your weapon pointed down range at the berm during a reload. Strikes me as near impossible using a revolver, especially with speed loaders.

So I have in my battery a 17-3, 4" 24-3 that received a competition action job when I bought it in the 80s, and soon-to-arrive 6" 66-4. I wanted a .357 for cheaper shooting & less recoil. So what competitions are those suitable for? The 24 will obviously make major and I would love to use it in pins but cannot find a match.

The 625 PC looks awesome but not sure I want to part with a grand just yet. Besides I can't find one locally to check out.

I agree with bpeddicord, shoot accurate and speed will come. Same as
experts recommend the same for defensive shooting.
