Finally looking at upgrading to a flat screen computer monitor. Found two on sale at what I think is a decent price. Both 22" flat screen. One is a Dell or other an Acer. The numbers on them are different. The Dell says 1000:1 and the Acer 2500:1. Any opinions. Is a bigger number always better? Anything else I should look for?

I assume that you're referring to the contrast ratio.
A higher number is better, especially in a brighter well lit environment.

Thanks, yes looking at contrast ratio. Any brand to stay from or are they all pretty much the same. Looking at Dell, Acer and also a Hanns-G.

Dell monitors are usually made by AOC and they're also making lower end LCD TV's. The seem to be reliable and durable. Not sure about Acer but their laptop monitors are very good. Any gamers in the house? If so look at a higher refresh rate.

look up the same monitors at newegg.com and read the customer reviews before you buy.
Users report that some models of Dell monitors develop dead pixels and worse.

its far better to spend an extra $50 and buy it once than save a few bucks two or three times over

my HP came with a hi def 24" monitor, it can even flip sideways.....really cool and one of the best monitors I have ever looked at.

I bought an Acer V223W a month or so ago. It's my first flat panel monitor so I don't have much to compare it to, but I'm very happy with the resolution and performance.
