When I google or bing something, predictable results appear, but when I click on one of these, I am redirected to something totally different. Everything else seems to work correctly on my computer. Is this something I can easily fix on my own, or is a computer Dr. in order?

I do have Norton antivirus installed, and it hasn't shown anything unusual lately.

I am not very computer savy. Thanks in advance for your help in this matter. Greg

its bait ..but these fishermen dont throw back the suckers lol
does it happen on every image you click or just some?

I forget what it's called but I think they embed in the web browser. I had it in Firefox and it did everything you described. I hate to admit it but I couldn't get rid of it no matter what I tried. I just switched to Chrome and uninstalled Firefox. I recently switched to Panda Cloud for anti virus and while it works pretty good it hasn't found anything serious yet. I guess that's a good thing...

I believe it's called "The Google Redirect Virus."

I had it for awhile, but then when my antivirus program updated it caught it and removed it.

OK, is your Norton AV up to date? Is it a paid or a trial version? For a computer person who kinda wants a set it and forget it type of protection I would uninstall Norton as it was a good product back in the day but now there are other better and free options. For a good free and legal all in one program I would uninstall Norton and download/install Windows Security Essentials Microsoft Security Essentials - Microsoft Windows as it is somewhat set and forget. It work for virus, spyware, malware, etc protection. There are better free items out there such as SpyBot S&D, MalwareBytes, etc but they require you to keep up with them, run manually yourself, stay on top of computer care, etc. I hope this helps.

Go to AVG | Antivirus and Internet Security | Virus Protection ...... download and use the program, run virus removal as well. You get 30 days of the trial paid version the it goes to free. I'm a computer nerd and I have the purchased version but the trial is just as good. It's better than Norton, McAfee, etc. Also, if you haven't already downloaded/ or are not using Google Chrome, DO IT!!! It has the MOST safety features and works in conjunction with AVG for extra security. If it gets any worse there are several other options, just post back what happens.

I have been doing the puter thing for 20 years or so and went to kolledge for hardware and networking. AVG is a good piece of kit, however they do try and upsell you now where back when they started it was totally free, just keep that in mind. Good free software would be AVG, Avast, Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes, Zonealarm, Adaware to name a few. Some of these have paid versions now where they use to be free so keep that in mind. This is the reason why I mentioned Microsoft Security Essentials. It only has one version and it does more in one program verses having several programs for different threats.

MSE is only .... decent if the PC is already clean. Once infected it's useless. You can Google reviews from CNET, CNN, PCMAG, etc. for yourself and see it's bottom of the totem pole for security. The scans are horrifically slow, it has very low Malware detection rate, and barely cleans the threats it does find, if it finds any at all when they are there.

Greg, just go with AVG free and Google Chrome and I can almost guarantee it will fix your problem permanently.

It sounds to me like the "Trojan Happili" virus.
I picked up this bug a couple weeks ago, ran my "Malwarebytes" (free)
Found, quarantined, & deleted*
Everything seems just fine now, good luck

+1 for the free version of Malwarebytes. I use MS Security Essentials as a real time defense and scan with Malwarebytes once a week, or if something unusual occurs. Also make sure your OS, browser, and other software are all patched and up to date.

There's your problem.

I have to agree with this. All the major big name brands that do all the advertising ore routinely the lowest rated anti virus software you can get. It's usually a toss up between Kaspersky and Panda for who is rated higher. I ran the free version of AVG for a long time but recently switched to the Panda Cloud free version as I like the idea of not having to worry about the latest download with it being "cloud based" and always being up to date.

These things aren't viruses and that's why anti virus software misses them. They are called spyware and can be a real mammy jammer to get rid of. Try the Microsoft Security Essentials as others have recommended.
