Considering buying an AK from IO Inc?

Yea that IO (also known as Royal Tiger) shenanigans is as old as time! :)

Prior to this failure they were importing some awesome Vepr RPK rifles in 556. They had a great product that a lot of guys wanted (RPKs are hard to get in 5.45. 556 is the next best thing. Even 7.62 are not that common). Price was great too....at $999. They were selling well until a small panic happened. This was post Sandy Hook. I forgot what exactly happened but they anticipated another big panic and pulled/canceled (money was refunded) all orders and put their products on GB for $2500. People got seriously pissed. Of course the panic never happened and those rifles sat on GB for months at $2500. Eventually IO started contacting the original buyers if they wanted those rifles again at a discounted price. ...which was the original price but discounted if you count the GB price. Everyone backed out and the company was stuck with a product no one wanted......to buy from them. After about a year IO issued an official apology but by then it was too late. Eventually they sold that lot but their reputation was severally tarnished.

Their in house AKs are junk. They follow the business model of "good enough". Is the avg owner really going to shoot 1k rounds....let alone 5k rounds? Probably not so using cheaper materials and cost cutting builds are "good enough". Most of their AK parts are cast and poorly so. Rob's front sight broke at around 500 rounds. Just flat out broke from firing. The rear sight lost a spring and became useless. The wood broke....etc...

The company is a joke

Personally, very limited experience with IO. I know 2 guys that have them and have not heard anything good or bad. One is wanting a bump fire stock for his so we'll see.

Most won't have issues with it because most firearms sold do not even see 500 rounds. IO rifles have obvious metal hardness issues as evident in AKOUs test

I agree and is prolly the case for both that I know of. If the one gets a bumper stock and enough ammo, time will tell.

If your halfway handy buy a parts set. You'll get real military stuff. You buy it with a US barrel and a US finished receiver. If you do it right with a mix of US parts and foreign you'll have a real quality AK.

True. ...unless you are like me and your hands grow out of a place lower than your shoulders. ....you measure 4 times and cut 7 times :).

Yes......if you're mechanically inclined you can build one heck of a rifle

I'm familiar with the company. I used to live pretty close to their factory, and did some research on them, when I was considering finding an American made AK..after lots of reading, and all the horror stories I've read.. I'll pass.

I purchased a VEPR AK thru Atlantic Arms. It is a dependable, well built firearm. It is never going to be a one inch group at 200 yards rifle but it will be close. Cost a little more, but my life is worth it... to me. Good luck.

I picked up a Krebs built AK about 13 years ago...traded a nice Russian SKS that I picked up back in the early 90's for the Krebs. I had a Maadi that I sold a while back...didn't need more than one AK. I'll never part with the Krebs. Shotgun News had an article recently about IO and putting out a better product:o I'll stick with my Krebs. Here's a couple of pics.
