Conversion Grips for a Model 34 J frame

I have a 1950’s Model 34 j frame .22 with round frame and grips.
I am wondering if square grips would make the gun more controllable to shoot as it seems pretty toy like even though I have small hands.
Do they make conversion grips that I could install that would be square Magna style grips to enclose the round frame like target grips do on square frame guns.
I don’t want to go with large target grips as they are too large for my grip.
What do you all think?

Are you saying that J frame targets are too large?? My factory J frame targets feel very good on my 34-1....look at a pair of them maybe...they are quite a lot smaller overall than K frame targets

All things are possible with S&W. Like you, I've gone around a bit with this, and the best solution I've found are R2S J-frame targets. I think these came from ebay. Or maybe a LGS. Can't remember.

I use the M63 mostly when bird hunting. Partridge (i.e.; ruffed grouse) like to flush up into trees at times, rather than simply flee the zip code. They know I won't shoot them from a tree with my shotgun. Unsporting. But they don't know I've got the .22...

My 1972 Model 34-1, 4" P & R came with the round-square grips right from the factory. Look good, better yet....feel good in my average hands. Family (wife, sons, daughters) also like the fit and balance when we're out plinking.

Conversely I'm about the only one of my bunch that can get rounds where they belong out of my Model 36, or even my EDC ( Model 637-2) somewhat due to the standard J Frame round butt grips, even the Altamont Combats on the 637 but then again I'm always practicing with the 637.

I would say for sure find a pair of the R-S factory grips and try them, you may be pleasantly surprised and if not you'll easily recoup your money by placing a sell add here on the forum.

Another vote for J frame targets. Since they completely enclose the grip frame, they work well with RB and SB J frames and even “convert” I frames to a handy, but useful size.

Just FYI, no such thing exists. The Kit Gun (including the Model 34) was built on the I frame, not the J frame. In c. 1960, it was switched to the J frame and was assigned model number 34-1.

That said, from 1953 onward, the grip frame is the same length on I and J frames. So, J frame stocks will fit just fine, as noted by other folks who responded to your question.

The blued 2" gun is a Model of 1953 Kit Gun, I frame.
Look at the length of the cylinder and cylinder window to see the difference.

I am bidding on a used pair of j frame target grips to see how they work out for me. If not, I may be selling my Model 34 round frame and get a square frame instead. I will keep you all posted on my little research project.

I lost the bid for the target grips. I think I may just sell my 1959 round frame and pick up a square frame model to better fit my needs. Thanks for the advice. I will list it here if I sell it.
