Less than two months after the country’s largest soda tax went into effect, embattled lawmakers in Cook County, Ill. — the home of Chicago — have decided to repeal it. The tax has been plagued, in its very short life, by legal challenges, implementation glitches and a screeching, multimillion-dollar media battle between the soda industry and public health groups. On Tuesday, in recognition of growing public pressure, the Cook County Board of Commissioners voted 15-1 to roll back the tax

Maybe they should repeal murder inside the city limits; outlawing isn't stopping it.......

I'm going to send your quip to a nurse in Chicago whom I know on the Net.

I tease her about the "joys" of living in that vile city. But I didn't realize they had a tax on soda pop!

Is this what they almost got or did get from Bloomberg in NYC?

I'm fond of ginger ale and sometimes drink a Dr. Pepper and wish the do-gooders would keep hands off.

This nonsense of taxing "Sugary Beverages" exists in several cities, and even gets brought up occasionally here in San Antonio, so far with no luck. The proponents always present it as an essential "Public Health" measure, to prevent obesity and diseases associated with it. Yet there are so many food items that are so much worse than Pepsi or Coke. So where does it stop? Pizza? Potato Chips? Cheeseburgers? M&Ms?

Philly has it, was fought in the court and they won. Some beverage companies actually pulled out of the city I believe.
They find their ways into your pockets one way or the other!

Wonder where they will make up the lost revenue?

Tax murder?

Congrats Cook County, for actually defeating a tax! Yay! See? Our new president has already had a positive impact in a blue area! :D

The whole soda tax was sold as a health issue, but in actuality, it was an anti-gun measure. I mean, what do we shoot when we go "plinking"? Soda cans! So, a tax on soda equals a tax on shooting! Now you see how devious these gun control nuts are?!

BTW, I'm being a bit facetious about the gun control thing, as the nosey nannies really do want to control every facet of our lives, including what we eat and drink. The side effect of a tax on our targets would just count as a "two-fer" for them.

Once Illinois is Cook County Cancer-free, the State will recover.
Goodbye, Illinois

Shocked that the Crook County board/city council decided to relent on anything. They are all the smartest folks they know.

Wonder where they will make up the lost revenue?
Tickets.

Parking tickets, parking fees, automated enforcement (cameras) speed tickets, red light tickets, bike lane tickets, etc, etc, etc.

Hate going there and thankfully it isn't often. Feel like a salmon about to be scooped out of the stream and consumed at any moment. The very definition of predatory!
