I recently bought a Cool Daddy fryer and have started experimenting with different items.

I cooked a slab of hard salami and ended up with a crusty piece of salami. Not impressive at all.

I know some restaurants used to deep fry candy bars and ice cream. I've also seen a place that deep fries hot dogs until they split open.

Does anyone have a favorite out of the ordinary item they enjoy deep frying?

When microwaves first came out, my favorite was nuked Moon Pies. Had to watch the time on this one, or else it would become a blob of cake, marshmallow and chocolate icing.

Who frys ice cream?

Howdy,Did you ever wonder who throws the ice cream in the deep fryer at the Mexican restaurants?
She does.
All kidding aside, I have a Grand daddy fryer and use to to keep four of us in fillets dropping 12-15 bluegill or crappie fillets at a time. Any more people to feed than four and I get out the big one.
Good luck with the fryer
Thanks
Mike

Fry up some pork skin yourself. It's pricy at over $3 a pound wholesale, but keep in mind that 1# of unfried pork skins makes a huge amount. They expand 4-6 times, so don't go crazy dropping squares into a small fryer.

Try fresh whole jalapeños. Put them in at the hottest temp (my fryer goes to 375) until the skin blisters. Let them cool and eat them like a pickle.

Reminds me of the time I broiled a baking sheet of jalapenos w/evoo and salt. I split them in half and see them. Once charred, I wrap up two or three at a time and freeze them for later use. I ended up sampling one, and it was so damn tasty, I had like 4 or 5. OMG did I regret that after supper time!

A favorite item that is very much enjoyed fried? Easy! Get yourself a couple of Vidalia onions. Peel the onion and then slice it about 1/4-3/8 inches thick. Separate out the rings and place them in a large bowl. Sprinkle on some lemon-pepper and mix thoroughly. Then cover the rings w/ a coat of self-rising flour. The lemon-pepper and flour will stick to the onion rings w/o any need for milk, etc. Get the oil up to frying temperature ... use a thermometer. The one I use is marked for frying. I add the onion rings when the oil is still about 10 degrees below full heat. I turn them a bit to let them brown evenly. Use your own judgement as to how brown to get the onion rings. I like them a golden color. Drain them on paper towels and enjoy them! With a grilled pork chop or steak and a baked potato you are all set. Just have plenty of iced tea with lemon to go along with it!

I tried this but they're too hot for me.

I sliced the peppers using one of those "Mandolin" cutters from the oriental food store. Before placing in the fryer basket, I soaked them in water several times. Poured off the water and seeds and dried the pepper slices on a towel. Deep fried for about 4 or 5 minutes, and cooled.

My innards can't handle really hot peppers any more.
