Costco Car Buying Service

Anybody done this? Would you do it again? I'm looking to buy a 2020 CR-V or Rav4 after the first....can't make up my mind which.

Tried it once. Didn't lead to a sale through the program, but did get a car through a dealership that contacted me because of the program.
 
I was able to get a better deal on my own. Plus a $1k USAA rebate.

I had a friend that worked for BMW. He said the prices are set between Costco and the dealer. If you call and say you want the Costco deal it's no problem for them. The only problem is he said if you walked into the dealership at the end of the month you could beat the Costco deal by quite a bit.
 
Yes, I have used it and it eliminates a lot of the BS.
Also have used Consumer Reports (which is now only "True Car")

What is good about either is you have the "dealer cost/invoice" (hey it is something) and any rebates or hold backs. At least it gives a figure to negotiate UP FROM rather than suckered into "sticker price" down. Pretty much go in and say this is what I will pay, they give you any BS just leave!

Yes, it it is still the great experience of buying a car!:eek:
 
Sam's Club had a similar program, and maybe they still do. I almost tried it once but didn't, figured I could probably get a better deal on my own with some judicious shopping around and dealing. I hate car salesmen and put up with none of their BS. I tend to go in with a pre-decided price, and won't go beyond it.

The first and last day of the month are good days for car buying. Salesman and dealerships want to "hit their number" for the month. Also, rainy or snowy days are good because most people don't want to look at cars then.

The dealerships have to sell a set amount of product each month. The factory looks at those numbers and bases allocations and incentives on how many are sold.

Just remember, if the salesman (or woman) doesn't sell, he doesn't eat. Use that knowledge.

I read that Costco auto sale service sells more cars of any one else.

I have never used them, but I did use USAA's service for a used car once and was very happy with them.

You also asked about the CR-V and the RAV4. Both are great vehicles and can be expected to give long trouble-free service. I have a 2018 RAV4 and it is a great vehicle. The only thing I will say is that I wish the tank held a couple of more gallons. I got the Limited because in 2018 is was the only style with power driver's seat and all the anti-collision technology. I don't know if that is still the case.

My daughter's family has 2 CR-Vs one is a 2011 and the other is a 2016. They are trouble-free and they are very happy with them.
 
I bought a 2015 Subaru Forester with it. It sent me to a dealer ship 2 hours away, whose listed prices were $1500-$2000 lower than the posted local ones. I bought our car for $1800 less than listed and was in and out in 4 hours. I would do it again if buying new. I bought my truck used at Dave Smith in Kellpg ID and was in and out in less than 2 hours.

If there is a large wheeler dealer near you that everyone has confidence in use them. If it is the average experience "I think I got taken pretty hard" that most of us feel buying cars use Costco.
 
I bought a Honda through the Costco program. I don't know if I could have done better by myself but cutting out the sales staff B.S. was worth it. Here when you buy from Costco it's through the Fleet dept. and they are on salary.
