I was given a bottle of Costco's private bottling (Kirkland) XO Cognac and it turned out to be one of the smoothest cognac's I've drank in years. The side of the bottle indicates it's made by produit par peyrat-associes & cie which is a well known and respected producer of Cognacs. The cost for a Kirkland bottling is around $50 and that's less than they charge for cognac put out under their own label. If you're a cognac fan I'd recommend giving this a try.

The stuff is good.

I got to try some a while ago at a friend's house, and since I'm a bit of a spirits nerd, I looked into it. It's rather interesting to see Peyrat as the producer, since they seem to try to maintain the image of an estate cognac focus. That's more limited and exclusive than what you'd expect from the kind of large-batch production necessary to support the house brand of a customer as sizable as Costco.

But it obviously works. ;)

I'm one of the few Americans to have tasted the grape that makes cognac brandy.

It's not very attractive until it's been distilled and aged into cognac. Sort of an ugly "duckling" that became a swan.

The guy who hosted some wine tastings that I used to attend brought some for us to try.

The grape is Pineau des Charentes. I don't think it's bottled as a wine, but is made into a liqueur.

There is VERY LITTLE that Costco puts their Brand on (Kirkland) that isn't as good or better than mainstream brands.

We buy their unsalted mixed nuts, microfiber rags, batteries, dog food and many many other products that are GREAT!
