I for one think that Mr. LaPierre hit the nail square on the head. His words rang true for me, and I appreciated his restraint and maturity in the face of the Code Pink Crew.

I am no sycophant, but I agree with every word he said.

I wonder if Congress has the moral fortitude to adopt his plan rather than resorting to window dressing that will please their limousine liberal base or their Chinese handlers.

Oh and one more thing... There seems to be an element amongst us of late that is intent upon 'changing the tone' of the conversation and suggesting that capitulation is acceptable.

Not to this cowboy.

The Only Reasonable Compromise is NO COMPROMISE AT ALL....

Local Houston news poll just reflected 85% of those that replied by text are in favor of police in schools. Hope that is representative of the whole. I do not see how current administration could regulate/restrict firearms instead of providing security.

Bill,

I got an e-mail from an acquaintance who is of the liberal leaning. She said that she didn't want her children going to school in an "armed camp with a jail-like atmosphere". I asked her which instinct was more important. To protect her children or her sense of aesthetics? No answer...

The posters on the other thread that were 'let down' by Mr. La Pierre's speech act as though he was put on this planet to entertain them.

I will not listen to these naysayers who's true agenda is probably hidden, when they try to cause dissent.

If some of 'those people' are NRA Members I'll eat my hat....

None of this folks who are for banning guns ever seem very preoccupied with this question: Why didn't this kind of crime happen regularly 60 years ago?

Exploring that question in depth would be fairly incriminating for the forces of "progressive-ism" in this country...so we have gun-phobia, instead.

Mr. LaPierre said what had to be said, for the most part, but the mob is going to do what the mob is going to do. I'm not sure, but I think it may have been Oscar Wilde who said "For every complex problem, there's ALWAYS a simple solution...and it's ALWAYS wrong."

Wayne LaPierre held his own verry well.

The NRA message was positive, and it backed Obama/Biden into a corner. It took the NRA all of six days to come up with a plan that was assertive, cheap ($13 billion annually), and got to the crux of the problem. The "official" committee will take all of its time to come up with a plan which we already know, will use a "global" solution to attack a single issue.

The NRA has a person with known credibility in Asa Hutchinson, who has experience in homeland security, the House of Representatives, and U.S. Attorney.

And he didn't back down an inch on gun rights. What more could could we ask?

The first inkling of capitulation is what will undermine the entire infrastructure. Give 'em an inch ...

I thought Mr. LaPierre did something that every leftward media muckraker and political pinhead failed to do this past week ... he remained rational, and articulated his points firmly and eloquently.

If anyone can show me a more effective approach to an armed bad guy being stopped by an armed good guy (particularly in our most vulnerable societal areas ... schools, malls, etc.), I'm willing to listen. But I don't think there's much merit to treating violent aggression with politically correct pacifism.

And as far as schools becoming jail-like, armed encampments ... that's a load of hooey. Locked school buildings are locked school buildings, now and in the future. Having trained security officers/LEOs/CCW teachers peppered throughout the public school system is nothing akin to an armed encampment. No one's realistically asking for SEAL Team 6 to be on patrol at Sunny Day Kiddie School.

But you know what? As a parent of a beautiful 10 year old, her safety and well being are my priorities in life. I'd approve of anything from a machine gun turret to a Sherman tank at her elementary school if it enhanced her overall safety. And I'd doubly approve it if it averted a tragedy.

Here the schools have a police officer at each school. There are in place lock down procedures that will be implemented if an individual is spotted with a firearm on or near school property.

You need to prepare for the worst so that you do not have to experience it.

I am thanking God that there are people out there and here on the forum that will put their money where their mouths are, so to speak. We don't need more laws. We need no more government than the HUGE pain in the amendments that it already is. We need just people from the top to the bottom that are interested in taking care of THIS country first. When we are healthy and whole, then we can afford to help others. If you have a hard time agreeing with that, then you obviously aren't aware of the basic laws of nature. That being first, The strong will survive. The week go under and go under first for a reason that is not up to us humans to decide EVERY time. Good and bad and pain and joy will always be. We need to get back to being the type of people that are interested in doing right for the sake of doing right, even when no-one is watching not just when your publicist is putting you in the spotlight for social approval. In Alaska, a very large amount of people home-school their children in order to make sure they are learning the proper things. Some of the drivel that is to be learned in school these days is despicable and deplorable. I deal with the public and I have noticed that most home-schooled youngsters are much more polite and mannered. If I had children, I would take the steps necessary to protect them instead of waiting for what a law maker said I could to to accomplish it. It seems as if many want someone else to take care of the problem. Well, Good luck with that. JMO and Blessings

Reading the NRA response transcript, there is no call to hire additional police for protection in our schools. There IS mention that there are qualified people available right now that can be deployed. I read that as qualified CCW public citizens. Teachers, parents, janitors and anybody that is legal to carry. States need to make changes in law that allow more law abiding people to obtain concealed carry permits. Just as states that freely issue CCW have shown a decline in crime, criminals will be reluctant to go to the schools or other Gun Free Zones.

If I were Wayne, I would have concluded with the following:

"Finally, I would like to thank President Obama for creating an atmosphere that has resulted in the arms manufacturing industry breaking all sales records in the fourth quarter. Thanks to the President, sales of all types of firearms have soared in recent months, including the assault rifles and high-capacity magazines he would like to ban. Without the President's remarks and those of his party, none of this would have been possible. Again, thank you Mr. President, for providing a must needed impetus to the economy and for inspiring our members to go out and purchase as many guns as they can. It's obvious that the President supports a well-armed citizenry, as our great Founders envisioned when they crafted the Second Amendment."

As I have said, were the qualified adults at the Newtown school not denied their 2nd Amendment right, there would have perhaps been no murder.
The first crime committed that day was the denial of rights, and it was committed by the federal authorities.

Are we so big that we can't learn from from a country that exists in a far more hostile envirement and solved the same problem decades ago in their schools. Israel has had armed teachers and staff for decades and stopped school armed invasions cold on numerous occasions. You can't blow kisses at a fire and expect it to not get worse.

I would not stand with any organization that would negotiate my rights to freedom when NO LAW on anyones books would have stopped this senseless tragedy. There is only one agenda on the minds of those who will not recognize facts and that is that they want them all!

I thought the NRA speech was VERY GOOD! He did appear to possibly be ill or even exhausted. He was very polite and did not respond to the nut balls that kept interupting him. Considering the animosity of the audience (press and screwballs). I am disappointed in the comments of some of our members who are upset with the speech. This is not the time to attack the NRA. Stay calm and support the NRA. Write your Representatives. Encourage all gun owners to get gun safes. Be safe. Merry Christmas.

Well Said... Well Said Indeed!

I think that the NRA handled it properly and provided some real ideas. For those who do not think they did...what's yer plan? We all know removing firearms from law abiding citizens will only worsen the issue " those who beat their swords into plow shears, usually end up working for those who don't"
