We had avoided crowds, taken all the precautions and not gotten Covid. So it's time to catch up on our skin cancer screenings and get our second booster shot.

Off we went to Wickenburg AZ 55 miles away to see the skin Dr.
After our screening we stopped at Safeway for the booster. They were out of Moderna so we went home without the shot.

That was on a Thursday. Over the weekend I started feeling bad, followed by my wife a day later. I was pretty miserable so I used one of the free test kits the Govt. had provided. 3-4 minutes after applying the three drops to the test strip a solid dark "T" line appeared. We definitely had Covid.

Since I have a blood pressure cuff and a pulse oximeter I was able to monitor our vital signs and O2 saturation. We didn't go to the Dr. and stayed at home until we tested negative almost 2 weeks later. We were pretty sick puppies for a while.

An important point, only on the first day did I have a fever. For the entire time after that first day, neither one of us had a fever.

We're 84 and 82. I suspect that if we were in our 20's this would have been very mild.

One of my sons asked me why bother with boosters when we still got sick. I told him yes indeed we got sick, BUT we're still alive!

Sounds like our recent experience, although we are somewhat younger and our symptoms were limited to something like a sticky head cold and we were done in a week or less. Pretty sure we picked it up in Europe, UK or Spain.

Prayers that both of you make quick recoveries with no lasting side effects.

Mom (89) contracted it 11 months ago and has not fully regained her senses of smell and taste.

Wife was vaxed and boosted ...I opted out.
We both got it ... twice,(Omicron then original recipe or extra crispy) with little difference to report. We've since retired from our church service, which affords us the luxury of avoiding a huge transmission point when when numbers support such action ... or inaction as the case may be.

the problem now, is finding a source of accurate numbers. About the best I can find are the mortality figures. New case figures are skewed by multi reporting and now under reporting due to home testing which is not tabulated.
Personally, I found the Norovirus was a rougher ride, but any of them will wreck your weekend.

Numbers are unavoidably skewed, but find your country and state if applicable and act accordingly

I got my first booster in late Feb. Had a fishing trip planned in mid-May. Spent from the tenth to the 20th of May mostly in bed. Headache, body ache, fever and a short bout with upset stomach and some distress of the lower tract. No breathing issues (the thing my HCP warned me about). I know I have been sicker but I can't remember when! The only two places where I had any contact with people, the previous two weeks, were the grocery store and the clinic ( six month checkup). I'm putting my money on the clinic. No lasting after affects except it took awhile to get any energy and Stamina back.

I'm just getting the shots because of an upcoming cruise in august. Very much against the shots and the statistics.

Pmanton, last I heard is 30-40% of the people with shots are on ventilators not the 10% reported early on. I don't understand if I have to test negative 48 hours before boarding the ship then Why do I need a shot card?? A lot of thing with this virus don't make sense to me. Larry

Not sure what to make of the shots either way, but I wouldn't do a cruise myself. Had a choir member and her husband get stranded with it in Munich. shots, tests ect ect. But this sort of thing was a driving factor in our retirement.
