Greetings shooters, 9/20/13
My SW 5906, acquired used about eight years ago, started having hammer follow issues. Upon detail stripping I found cracks on both sides of the frame between the sear-spring pin and hammer pin. When the slide would recoil forward the cracks would allow just enough movement for the sear to slip off the hammer hooks. I had a round count of 7,640 standard pressure rounds.
I contacted SW (Frank Branchesi) in June, 2011, and was told to print a Fedex label and ship it in. Since I live in one of the US territories (Guam) where Fedex won't ship guns I asked if I could send it via USPS at my expense. I got no reply and after waiting a year shipped it via USPS in August 2012 with my original email and Frank's reply.
I get an email in November, 2012 (three months after sending it to SW) asking me to call SW. I'm informed that they can't fix the 5906 and will replace it with an M&P 9mm. I say I'd rather have the 5906 but will take the M&P.
Now, ten months later, no M&P and no 5906. I've had ten contacts with SW (8 emails, 1 phone call, 1fax) and keep getting transferred to departments who don't respond to my emails. I've written them that I just want my damaged 5906 back (no new plastic-ware pistol) and I will find someone else to Tig weld it.
Any suggestions on how to get some action from SW? It's been over two years since my initial contact and they've have had my 5906 for over a year. I'm at a loss on what to do with SW's supposedly great customer service.
best wishes- oldandslow
