It's not barred by the immutable laws of nature, so I guess there's always a chance, but I would think the probability is very, very small.

I can't really tell from such a small picture, but are the checkering lines diagonal to the bore axis? I find it unlikely that S&W would do such a thing.

Its how it was photographed I believe, the way it’s lit and how the light is reflected. I see the same effect in pics on gunbroker sometimes.
