Have an opportunity to pick up a Chief's Special 9mm in excellent condition and 4 mags, box etc., for $650. Is this a fair price? Seems just a little high to me but I'm unfamiliar with this model.

It's a little high for my neck of the woods , but then you never see them down here . Then again , how often do you see them where you're at ? If it's in like new shape and the mags are all original and the box is tied to the CS9 , I'd be tempted to pick it up and I already have one.

I picked up mine for $338 back in 2018, but that was the before times and it's basically a different world now. $650 sounds high to me, but the mags are hard to come by and super expensive these days, so IDK.

I really like my CS9, but I don't think I'd be interested in one for that much money. You can get a new Shield Plus for $329 and it's still supported by the factory, the mags are still being made and are not $79 each on eBay, there are tons of holsters and a robust aftermarket, and it holds almost twice as many bullets. You could spend a little more and get one that's optics ready AND buy an optic and still spend less than this CS9. You'll be stuck with a polymer, striker fired 9mm which may not be your cup of tea, but it's something to consider if you are looking for a carry piece.

I would think more like $550 for a minty piece with two mags and box but they are often hard to find these days. Many just holding onto them. Still they could go higher down the road if demand keeps up. See if you can haggle a bit. Doesn't hurt.

Another local SWCA member and I were discussing CS9 prices just last Saturday. I believe we're both interested in making a deal but the dearth of "comps" makes it hard to find a mutually agreeable price.

Exactly what I was going to say. I've seen CS9 mags listed for $70.00 or more, so that has to be factored into the prices.

The OP didn't mention if it was black or stainless, but these days I'm not sure it matters much, if at all.

With all of the market interest in small 9mm carry pistols, people are holding on to these little gems because they are much better than plastic striker fired pistols.

The price is reasonable. Recent sales at the big auction site show sales around $600 for the black rather than SS models. The extra mags make the offering a buy if the box matches the gun.

Agree GaryS This cheapo can't wrap his head around $70 for a magazine. Guess I am showing my age. LOL Perhaps I should have said $600 instead of $550 not thinking of the value of the mags. They do sound like the ideal small carry pistol perhaps ahead of their time with all the rage for small sub-compact 380--9MM these days. Would love to see them reintroduced these days. I would grab a blued one!

I bought a lot of 3rd Gen magazines for $25.00 back when I thought $30.00 was outrageous. Of course "back then" was less than five years ago.

The best deal I got was a 3913 magazine body for $20.00. I had the spring, follower, and base plate in my parts bin so I was able to resurrect it for short money.

As for re introduction, our best hope right now seems to be the CSX IF S&W decided to make a DA/SA version. That would be as start as it would be a suitable follow on to the 3913.

I bought my CS9 in August on this forum for 485. I was was able to buy additional magazines here for $50 each

I have a cheap letter paddle holster I picked up at a gun show. I have been carrying it around the house and out on dog walks to get used to it. It is easy to forget it is there.

I like the all metal format. It shoots well and 50 rounds a week is improving my aim.

$50 per mag is a steal - pistol in good condition (note blued ones may have finish wear issues) with 1 mag $500 + 3 extra mags @ $50 = $650 Matching box and no shipping charges a plus. But if you are concerned offer $600.

PS - CHECK RECOIL GUIDE ROD.

Potential negative is parts availability. Recoil Springs are available (unlike CS40/CS45) but plastic recoil guide rods are not available. Not sure about any other parts / commonality to other 3rd gen pistols but recoil spring and guide rod appear to be unique to CS9.

Well, personally, the way I shop for firearms, if I wanted a CS9, I wouldn't let a few dollars get in the way. For me, $650 is right at top dollar and not a particularly unusual asking price.

Great input guys and thanks. So I guess $650 or higher is now more the norm for a minty piece with original or new mags and box? Bought mine in 99 in stainless. Perhaps I should look for a "beater" for range fun. Enough striker fired polymer out there to choose from.

I can't find any for comparison. I probably have the only one in MA, but I suspect when I get around to listing it I'll get interest from all around.

It's too nice to use as a shooter or carry gun and it deserves a home with a collector, not an accumulator such as I.

My pre rail 3913TSW was not nice enough to be a collector piece, but is a very nice carry piece.

Nice!! Pushing a grand at least these days probably

I really have to figure out the value of my LNIB pre rail 3953TSW. I think my original thought was a bit low.

Gary, I got one in 2019 after a long search, and I agree that it is a fine CCW.

The no-rail is hard to find, but one was offered on the big auction site in August 28, 2022 (Item #942687718). It had 42 bids and sold for $1250.89.:D
