I posted this a while back but can't seem to find it again so....

This is a 4" 586-3 round butt. I think there were 2500 made in 4" and another 2500 in 6" back in 1989. I bought it from GB 6-7 years ago. It showed up as a real *** and I was incredibly disappointed. Cylinder stop was worn, notches peened over, crane and ejector rod bent, marred screws, foul trigger... and so on...

This thing was ready for the trash along with the rb hogue mounted to it. Or...

I could try to fix it. There I went. Parts lots from eBay got me triggers, hammers, springs, plungers, and screws. I have spent over 200 hours on this Gun getting it right. It's a 686 cylinder that I had moonclipped by Gemini Custom, Power custom oversized hand and bolt stop, front sight is a DX sight from SDM Fabricating that I filed and fit in place of the red ramp. Jerry Kuhnhausens bible got me through the mechanics of the lockwork and every single part of this 586 has been stoned, filed, polished, fitted, and shimmed. I've hand lapped the bore to a perfect taper and removed the bore constriction at the frame choke point. This fine piece will cloverleaf 158gn LRN at 15 yards. It's timed perfectly, (the bolt drops into the leade at exactly 50% of the hammer stroke) and has zero endshake or side play, the cylinder indexes perfectly to the bore, has a perfectly smooth 6lb double action pull with zero take-up and a crisp 2lb single with zero overtravel. I've shot every load available from my own .38 x 23mm Match loads to Buffalo Bore 180 field loads through it. I've got over 25000 lead rounds through this and less than 1000 jacketed, semi jacketed, plated, etc...

I am to this very moment proud of the way this project wound up being that the only original parts are the frame, barrel and side plate.

I just wanted to share with you folks and maybe inspire you to take a second look at that wheel Gun you might have otherwise passed on. It could just wind up being your next "crown jewel"

All the best

It looks great. I find it personally rewarding to restore something so that it's as-good-as new or better. This is what you have done here.
Bravo!

Very nice gun, the 4" 586 is a nice looking and well balanced piece. Be proud that you took the time to figure things out and make the gun useable again. Would like to see a close up on how you fit the front sight base. Larry

Beautiful gun!
