I found a guy that makes custom wood grip panels for GP100s & SP101s. He does nice work, and they fit like they grew there. I bought a set for my SP101, and they are well made.
I am not affiliated with this guy at all, and I won't make any money...
If anybody is interested, search for Chig's Grips.

Here are some crappy cell phone pics of the ones I bought:

Ya should have let me know you wanted some;)
They are tricky to make as they have varing thickness and angels. All cut and filed by hand,

The red oak without escutcheons are prototypes

Rule3 what are the rough measurements? Hight, width and thickness.

I honestly do not know. I just cut a piece of walnut a little larger and thicker than the stock plastic ones. Cut out a rough shape with a coping saw and then filed and sanded. I would stop and put the plastic ones next to it, mark with pencil shape a little etc etc. Besides the saw, about 4 different rasps/files, belt sander and hand sanding. Much easier to work the Walnut. The Red Oak is hard as a rock and does not sand easy. I want to find some other "exotic" wood.

They are not like a 1911 grip panel which is pretty much the same all around.

(For $18.50) they are worth it!!:)

I have a piece of wood 4 7/8 x 1 7/8 x 5/16. It's called Purple Heart. You want exotic? It was given to me a long time ago and he told me that they sold it by the pound. You can have it if you think it would work.
Warning this stuff is every bit as hard as your Red Oak.

I pimped up my SP101 with a set of White fake Ivories from Lett when they were still around. I've seen some beautiful burl maple and spalted hardwoods too from various makers. Nice way to dress up those Rugers. And yes, I own several ;)

Oh, I see now. I thought the PSA was where we were to sign in and record our prostate blood test results.

This gettin old ain't easy.

Regards

Bill

Can ya hook me up with some nice checkered Cocobolos for my KP90? :D

How 'bout some curved backstrap type for my 4536?

Ya should have let me know you wanted some;)

Does the guy make the full grip also? I'd be interested in what he charges for full wood grips. Thanks.

I think that guy should do a wood grip karma to get aquatinted with the board...I'll take the first spot. And imagine how his business would take off if he could say that I actually sport his grips on my SP101!

This is my wife's gun. She confiscated it after I convinced her to give it a try, stupid me. Anyways, she picked grip inserts made in purple heart wood. :D

I am looking for some grip panels for my Ruger GP100 made from purple heart. If anyone can point me to someone/someplace where I could get some, I would be very grateful.

Search chigs grips. Chad does beautiful work. But be aware both purple heart and red heart quickly fade in natural light. The panels will soon be mismatched.
