CZ 455 American .22LR at the range

I have mentioned my new toy, CZ 455 American .22LR, in several posts. Finally got to the range today, nice clear day with little breeze, mid-50'sF.

Photos show the rifle as I have set it up for general small game use. Williams front ramp with bead, Williams receiver sight, 1" military leather sling. The CZ has a 20.8" barrel, nicely checkered walnut stock, blued steel. Nice traditional sporting rifle.

Other photos show a target shot at 50 yards from a bench with rest. Ammo is a box of Remington 'Mohawk' brand, 40-grain lead, high-speed (found during the move 5 years ago, probably 30 years old bargain ammo). 25 rounds fired at 50 yards.

I think I am ready for most small game within 50 yards or so. Group is 1.7"X0.8" at 50 yards, so about 3.4MOA. Perfectly adequate for bunnies, snowshoe hares, grouse, and other tasty critters. All deviations are obviously my own failures to maintain proper sight alignment!

Next step: I have the CZ factory 1" steel rings and a Tasco World Class 3-9X40 to play with and see what the rifle will do at 100 yards.

Nothing in the world more fun than a really good .22 rifle!

Nice shootin’ rifle there. I have a 455 Lux that I really enjoy, have both 22lr & 22WMR barrels. You’re right, nothing like a really good .22 rifle.

I have the CZ 452 with a vortex scope and with quality ammo it will shoot dime size ten shot groups at 50yds. from a rest. Great guns for the money

I’m a huge believer in the accuracy of these CZ’s. I have a number of 452’s and 455’s. My favorite is this 452 FS in 22 LR with its Leupold Rimfire scope. It will literally stack rounds in a single hole in my backyard 50 yard range.

455s are good. I currently have a threaded 455 Lux w a Leupold 2-7 and surefire Ryder on it, tis the bees knees. Do still miss my 452FS though.

Some real eye candy in this thread. A buddy of mine has one of the 452s and while I’ve always know they were nice 22s it wasn’t until I fired it this passed summer that I truly appreciated it. Thinking I may need to add one to the stable one of these days.

The CZ 455 is an excellent carbine, I have a CZ 455 thumhole caliber .22 LR and I can assure you that it is a machine to hit the target, besides being precise it is a very nice weapon, I apologize for not publishing photos because I do not know how to do it, I congratulate him on his gun and good aim.

For my own uses, small game hunting at modest ranges, the receiver sight and bead front are my preference. In my opinion, a .22LR is a 50-yard shooter, not a long range piece (yes, there are exceptions). Two reasons why I got the scope:

1. rifle came with factory steel 1" rings
2. found the Tasco World Class 3-9X40, new in the box, closeout priced at $35!

I own Leupolds, couple of old steel-tube Weavers, a Burris, a Bushnell, all good scopes for their purposes. Tasco isn't top drawer stuff, but I'm using it on a .22 rifle primarily for entertainment!

BRNOs- Model 22 FS in 7x57, ZKK 600 in 7x57, ZKG 465 in 22 Hornet, 611 in 22WMR, Model 3 in 22lr

CZs- ZKM 452 in 22lr, RAMI in 9mm

I think the Czech guns from the last several decades have been outstanding. I got exposed with a CZ 452 in 2005. I have been accumulating ever since.

The Tasco world class scope is truly a fine scope and at $35.00 that is near the deal of the month!!!

The optics really are good and elevation/windage adjustments are very positive and repeatable.

I have one on my CZ 452 Trainer that I use in Rimfire Sporter Silhouette matches and really like it!!

Have a lot of 38/39 out of 40, darn 40-40 is elusive for me. The 452 really shoots well with CCI 0032 Standard Velocity ammo.

On more than one occasion I've put 10 rounds into the X ring of a 100 yard standard smallbore target at 100 yards.

I have a CZ 452 American in 22RF that I mounted with an old (Denver) 2x7 Redfield. I wanted a 100 yard rifle for small varmints.

I tried a dozen different brands and styles of ammo. I found that my gun would consistently shoot under 2" 10-shot 100 yd groups with Winchester 40 gr HP Hyper Velocity (among others). This bullet is very effective on small game up to the size of a raccoon.

I picked my 455 up used at a gun show so no choice of stock or color but it sure shoots. I was just sighting it in at our indoor range at 25 yards before venturing outside and shot this five shot group.

I got a 452 full stock, 452 ultra lux, a 452 treaded, and a super early 4 digit model 1. Yeah, I can't get enough of them.

A good friend of mine has a CZ 455 he picked up when looking for a really accurate .22. He sure got one. Put a (IIRC) Burris 6-18x variable on it.

We had fun at our private range one day with it, and this was after he found what standard velocity target ammo it liked best - none were bad, just 1-2 better than most.

I went downrange and pressed #209 shotshell primers into the cardboard target backing in a few rows of 10 or so.

About 50 yards, a good rest and had a blast hitting those primers (no one else was around). They pop and leave about a 1"-2" hole, then on to the next. Only a good center hit would work, but it was readily apparent the CZ would do it all day.

Big CZ rimfire rifle fan..... 10 years ago got my first a 452FS in .22mag for a woods walking varmint rifle...... added a 1-4x20 leupold .... it will put everything under the cross hairs at 100yds off the bench. Smallest groups are in the .9range and fairly common.

Added some 452s in .22lr ..... Trainer and FS. Can't be beat for the price.... even got a little Scout for the Boys when they were younger now a great .22 for the wife.......

If you haven't check out the 527.... mid-size mauser action in .223/5.56

Wood is generally .Good to GREAT!!!!!

I like those iron sights, I personally find them more challenging and better for developing skill. I have a CZ 511, great shooter but those magazines are very rare.

Oh btw, if you CZ guys want a nice, cheap accessory, grab one of these cheapo 3D printed single shot adapters. Higher rate of fire than running a couple five or ten rounder, and more fun (when its warm enough not to need gloves).
