I have a CZ 75BD 9mm all metal like the Beretta 92FS.
I love the way it shoots. I love the trigger etc Same for my beretta 92.
Both of these guns sell at CZ $500 and Beretta $600 plus or minus a few dollars. These guns are very popular. CZs are used a lot in competition (not the stock pistols)
I own one of each and I almost always take the CZ to the range.
Does anyones have either of these?
My real reason for the post is to try to understand why SW can't make these at those prices? It would bring back some 3rd gen 9mm ..5904.
I think S&W could complete in the full size 4" barrel market with Beretta and CZ if they would just step in. They don't have to go crazy and change their m&P line out. Keep that in tact. But just make a SW design to compete with the Beretta 92 or my favorite the CZ75 in 9mm. If their price point was between $500- $625 they would sell a lot of them. JMO

My two favorite lines of pistols are CZ's and their clones, and S&W's, mostly the 3rd gen. autos. I'd like to see S&W offer pistols like the CZ's. I think most companies are focusing on polymers to try to go after police/security contracts. Ruger has done the same thing. No P series pistols anymore. At least both still put out steel 1911 pistols. We will just have to keep buying the old pistols and hope CZ never changes the model 75 to polymer.

I have both the 75 B and the 85 BD circa 1994. The 75 B shoots at 1.5 inches and the 85 BD shoots at 2.5" at 25 yards. Fantastic machines.

I have a 75B (.40 S&W) Until I got my 4006 it was my go to carry gun. I suspect that S&W doesn't see the demand for steel pistols.

Mbliss57... Are you at all familiar with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen S&W auto's? If not then you may like what you find.

CZ don't sell much. Every store has one or two but not the whole line. Where as there is a whole line of HKs or XDs or Glocks. Also despite being steel they have had problems. Recently the 75s have had problems with the mag release bar snapping in in half during live fire. And there was a problem with the .40 RAMI having cracked slides.

OH I am familiar...I have a safe full of them. .22LR, 9mm, 45acp and 10mm in all generation shapes sizes .. alloy/steel frame...you name I own or have owned them.
I just want to see some new product come out. Part of the reason is going to be part availability in the future. But most it would be nice to see. They came out with the Model 66 and a model 69 L frame .44mag this year which means to me they are listening to what people want. I live the 3rd gen design and it woul dbe easy for them to come out with a new line similar to the 3rd gen but with a slightly different design.
People I talk to (not you people) don't want a 20 -30 year old design..by name. They just need to rebrand it.

I think it's a question of demand and production capability. Even though Smith has the largest number of CNC machines on the east coast, I think they keep them running pretty constantly.

Their steel pistol production seems to be concentrated on 1911 platform frames and slides and M&P slides. Plus they still make a good number of revolvers that need extensive machining.

I might be incorrect, but I believe that all of that is done in Springfield although the M&Ps are assembled in ME.

I think that they could still sell the 3913 if they reintroduced it, but it would be a niche market as LE is mostly bound by low bid and many of the newer generation of gun owners are smitten with Glock and other polymer framed firearms.

I'd add the AR platform guns in to the needing machining mix, but I don't think any of that is done in Springfield. If it is, then that just ties up more machine time.

Either way, I'll just plan to look for more 39xx pistols if I need anything.

Smith has figured out that Americans will pretty much only pay too much for a metal pistol if it's a 1911 or they think it comes from Germany. Sad but not changing anytime soon..

IT still doesn't really explain how CZ..I don't what nay sayers think these are excellent pistols and Beretta 92/ M9 have years of history. But are made at a lower prices than a SIG or HK.
Why is that and why could SW match that? I could understand if it was a capacity issue but they are constantly bringing on new revolvers.. why not a new (Non Tactical) 5904 or 4566 type rebrand?

Smith and Wesson could sell 3rd Gen guns if they made more of them and could sell them at the $650 dollar price point.

In two years I've purchased a Beretta M9 and a 92A1. Both at $600 or less. Not all are enamored with plastic guns. I have really just discovered the 3rd Gens and already own a 3913 and 6906. I would buy a new 5906/5943, and I was just lusting over a new in the box 3914 DAO on Gunbroker. I would have purchased it for the asking price of $659 if I had not already made gun purchases this month.

I think Smith stopped selling compact 3rd Gen's before the Concealed Carry movement really caught on. They were ahead of their time. My CC guns were the S&W Models 65 3" and 60 2" but the 3913 is becoming my most carried gun.

My CZ75 eats every kind of ammo I've ever put in it, reliably & accurately. I've put in Wolf 9mm rounds that had light (or insufficient?) strikes from other pistols (Keltec, etc.) and they fired and cycled with no problems in the CZ.

No wonder The Colonel called it a "wondernine"...

Cheers!
