I fear I have infected some of my friends with the King modified gun bug, so even though I haven't been buying guns between our little cult we tend to discuss most king guns that pop up for sale on line.

This one, well, I'm wondering if it is a sign of things to come for King pricing:

King Custom Colt Woodsman 1st Series .22 LR Semi-Auto Pistol, MFD 1938 C&R - Curios & Relics at GunBroker.com : 872212272

Hammer price of $5,011.00

I know it's the "complete" package, as far as such a gun goes. Between the KST rib, the Ropers, and the Barrel Weight. I can't imagine the box added to the price. Best I can figure there are people who have wanted such a gun for a while, and they pop up so rarely that money just became no object.

I was particularly interested in it because I have a gun which is almost the same thing, and I had been considering selling it:

It's a bit different in that it has work done to it by A.E. Berdon and that John Giles rear sight. It was clearly used up through the 1960s at least for competition shooting, and continually upgraded for that purpose. In any case I love it to pieces and my absurd desire to sell it evaporated when I got it out and put it in my hand again. Plus, if prices are going this stratospheric I'd never be able to afford such a gun in the future again.

In any case, I know that King prices going up, I just didn't think they would spike like that.

Any other King aficionados have a take on that auction, something I am missing?
