As in years past, the park superintendent reached out to me and said the lake front is over run with geese and asked if Daisy would be interested in coming out and running them off the banks. Well, that being one of Daisy's favorite things to do I told him we'd come and help him out.
We loaded up before daylight this morning and headed out to the lake so we could be there as the sun came up. When we arrived I didn't readily see any geese and was thinking we may have a dry run, but I put on Daisy's leash harness and cut her loose and quickly found them roosting on the banks near the swimming area and immediately started herding them back to the water. After she got them in the water she worked the shoreline to keep them off out in the water.
The park superintendent showed up and brought me a sausage biscuit and we sat and watcher Daisy guard the shoreline. Once she had them all herded out in lake she would come up to us and rest a spell, but as soon as she spotted one of the geese easing it's way back to shore off she went to encourage them back.
The park superintendent said he had another fellow bringing his Australian Shepherd out this afternoon to do the same thing and was hoping the activity would encourage a lot of them to move on. He said he didn't mind having the geese around, but currently there were just too many of them.
Daisy had a big time and we were invited to come back in a few days for another round.
