Daisy on goose patrol

Much of the “problem” started when shooting over live decoys was outlawed. The hunting clubs that had large flocks of pet geese just released them. This birds had never migrated so stayed in the area and multiplied. The non migratory geese should be treated as nuisance birds.

Apparently, folks around here don't like cooked goose. Several of my hunting buddies said they killed some and tried to cook 'em and they were horrible. I've never tried goose myself.

Ohio has an early goose season just for non-migratory geese. I would cut the breasts out, put both in a zip-lock freezer bag with 1/4 cup Italian salad dressing (burp all the air out and put in the deep freezer. When thawing, they self-marinate. Grill them!! Slice for sandwiches or cut up and put in favorite rice dish. On other people's property, I put the rest of the bird in the ground. On my farm, I had a Blackberry Patch for critters to fertilize!

Been waterfowl hunting for 50 years and the best recipe that I have ever found is contained in the link below. Goose breast, cream cheese, poblano pepper slice, and bacon. I pretty much follow this recipe except use toothpicks to fasten the bacon to the roll breast. You can do the same with larger ducks like mallards. Great taste!
