I did a double take at a gun shop the other day. As I was waiting for service I noticed a Dan Wesson 6" .357. Most of all, I noticed the price of $399!!! Just then I was waited on and soon left pretty.... lets say angry, and didn't ask about the gun. Now I can't get it out of my mind and plan to go back tomorrow in hopes that its still there. So...

Is that as insanely low a price as I think it is? It was used but looked in condition, and had 2 sets of grips. Barring any mechanical defects it may have to come home with me.

Seems like a fair price to me, especially if it's a Monson and not the very, very early ones with hog leg on the barrel. I've had the .44 Mag DW for the last 28 years, what a great gun, great trigger and low recoil due to it's weighted barrel shroud.

See ya,

"Hog Leg on the barrel"? "We" DW aficionados refer to that as the "pork chop" shroud.
I have 2, a Model 12 with the outside barrel nut and an M-15 Pistol Pac, both are extremely accurate when I do my part.

That's about what I see them going for.

The finish on many left a lot to be desired. As Snowdog mentioned, the Monson made revolvers are generaly considered to be of a higher quality.

I like 'em.

Heres my 15 I've owned since the early 80's, still my nightstand gun.

So maybe it isn't the find I thought it was, but $400 for a nice .357 shooter still sounds good to me. Maybe this will become my reloading test mule! Many thanks.

I had a Model 15 from Monson,Mass I sold last fall.I sold it for $250.
Very accurate but I didn't like the trigger at all.

I would say that is an average price for a 357. I just brought home a 44 mag a few weeks ago. I also have a 357 and a 22 mag.

I don't own a DW but I hear nothing but good things about them.
The strange part is you tend to find that at very reasonable prices.
It defies some basic business principles. :p

I have a vague memory of a Dan Wesson gun "kit" that included different barrel lengths and different grips in a briefcase. Was I dreaming? Is this what you saw Big Rich?

Not at all I own two sets of them- One NIB They were called "Dan Wesson pistol pack's". The big ones had four barrells .25,4,6 and 8"
tools to change the barrel a couple of grips- a frame and a belt buckle

Well at least I got the animal right. ROFL Any how here is a link that might help. It has a forum section called "What did it go for" which states the cost of DWs have gone for recently. For DWs being a strong revolver, it was for a while most revolver used in Silhouette competition. I shot a ton of full house load thru my DW 44 without a hitch, back when I shot silhoutte competition and I was young with better sight. Hope the link works, if not just do a search for Dan Wesson forum.

I only saw that it had a 6" Target barrel and another set of grips beside it, for that price I doubt it would be one of those packs. I've seen them also.

Alright folks! I had to put the trip off til tomorrow, so I may have pics and range results by Monday:o

Yes, the pistol pack. Here's a nice 1977 vintage 15-2 that was my first purchase for 2010. Saw one not quite as nice go for $300 more than I paid the same day I picked this one up.
