Was outside this morning about 6 cleaning a few snapper that was split up amonst three of us. Had a cup of coffee with me. I sat it down on the corner of my cleaning table and in 2minutes it was covered in fly and "fly vomit". They didn't just come because of the fish smell either. My yard is very clean of things that would attract flies (I think), but anytime you step outside with food...bam, you're swarmed.

I've tried the fly strips, but they only worked if I wrqpped it around something they wanted to vomit on! My Gramma used to put some pink sugar looking stuff in an aluminum pie pan and they would swarm to it and eat it. Most didn't make it out of the pie pan before they vomitted for the last time! Anyone know of any fly bait that kills prettty good. Not worried about kids or animals getting into it.

thanks in advance,
Lee

I'm interested to see the replies. I have the same problem. Can't open the door without letting in half a dozen flies.

Don't know if this works for flies or not but it works for hornets and bees.

Take a plastic soda bottle and cut the top off making a funnel. Turn it over so the funnel part is now inside the bottle. A little soda left in the bottom works as the bait. Since flies can crawl on most anything I don't know how effective it will be on them, but this works great on the bees and hornets.

Little pink stuff

You can buy the pink granules at a feed store. We use it in the barn and it works great.

I'll go over this afternoon and look at the brand name. It's about $8. a bottle.

We cut a milk jug and put it in to hang out of the way of animals, but you can just put it in a pie pan or paper bowl and set it out on something up off the ground.

The paper's a good idea because you just throw it away vice cleaning it when it fills up with flies.

Flies are horrible here because of all the rain. That and crabgrass........

You live in Florida?

I have a problem with flies trying to get in the house through the garage door. It's crazy as I have no idea why everytime I open the door from the house to the garage some damn fly tries to get in. There is no trash or anything nasty. I live in a nice residential area, nice yard blah, blah Maybe they want air conditioning.:D

Last year I bought one of those fly traps at Wally World, a bag with some disgusting attractant. Put it out by the driveway and it was the grossest thing I ever saw. Millions of flies! Didn't put a dent in the population.

A better solution is to get your neighbor to put out a fly trap. That will entice your flies to visit HIM!

I just read a post about "Dryer Sheets". Yes the ones you put into the clothes dryer. They are suppose to repel bees and mosquito's, along with alot of other things. Maybe they would work on flies also.

i wish i had the answer for killing them, but as to deterring them, i put out a couple of quart freezer bags filled with water and one bright penny in each. i keep one hanging near the table on the pation and one near the back door. supposedly, the flies think the penny is a hornet and won't come near it. works, whatever it does. just punch a hole above the zipped part and hang it up on a nail or with string. hope this helps. lee

Flies

God bless my departed father in-law, When i was a youngster and complained about Flies he would ask if the Flies bothered me ,I would answer yes , He would then tell me "that their were always Flies around a horses ***." I always fell for it and we would laugh. He has been gone many years I still miss him. Think about him when someone mentions Flies.

The best stuff is called QuickBayt. Do a search, this is what we use on the Dairies I manage. It's granule poison you spread or you can make into a paste and paint it on places.
