data for AA 2200 powder ?

A friend was given an eight pound jug (sealed) of Accurate Arms 2200, the
side of the jug gives brief one line data for .223, 25-20, 7mm TCU, and 7.63x39 cartridges.

I understand, from a few internet articles, that this is from a batch of powder, from the 90's, that didn't quite match burning rate of the other AA powders, and they came up with another #, as this is supposedly a bit faster than AA 2230.

This is a fine ball powder.

Also read that AA made a later production (of 2200), that is a different burning rate.

I would appreciate any further official data, to keep us out of trouble here.

Eight pounds is a LOT of powder, and would like to safely use it for our AR-15's.

I bought one of those many years ago as it was CHEAP. You might want to contact AA as they sent out a load sheet with it. I used mine for 223 and it worked fine.

My advice is to clean the barrel after shooting AA2200.

I had an AR15 Match barrel rust up in the safe after shooting 2200 and not cleaning the gun. My brothers AR was right beside mine, and had the exact same Match Barrel. He was shooting TAC powder in his. No Rust.

Both guns had exactly the same barrels that were ordered together. Both were shot at the same time, and in the same approximate amounts. Both were put back in the safe at the end of the day and left for a few months without being cleaned. The only thing different was he was shooting ammo loaded with TAC in Omaha Nebrasks, and I was loading my ammo in Missouri using AA2200.

This led me to believe this powder might be corrosive? The fouling might attract moisture?? I am no expert, but this sure looked like a powder related issue.

I believe 2200 was a Chec powder for the AK74 best as I remember. I think I still have 4 Jugs of it.

This is just a heads up. Do what you should be doing anyway, and clean the gun when you get done shooting. It might save you from having a problem.

The powder seemed to work fine. I will probably get in the mood and start on a bucket of 223 hulls one of these days, and I will be using the 2200 again.
