I'm kind of new to the forum but I do own a few S&W revolvers and I love all the information on this site. I just picked up a model 12-2 and was wondering if anyone may know about the year it was made? It is a 2 inch nickel roundbutt, the ser. # is C9519**. The gun also has some markings on the left side. The markings are...M C... and just below that is the number 4. I was told it may be an old police gun but I have no way of being sure. I only paid $235 for the gun and it has an old tyler T-grip on it. Any help would be great and again, this site is great for S&W info. Thanks.

It probably shipped in 1967. You are correct about the extra stampings but it will be difficult to determine what they mean unless someone here has personal experience. Hope this is helpful.

that is a nice gun, i have a 2in one in blue. does yours have the diamonds on the grips? if it does it would be an early one. they were made up to 1977 if the gun is nice $375-400 would be about where it would be in value i think.

Thanks for the info. I live in North Carolina and I got it at a gun shop in Mecklenburg county, in Charlotte, so that may be why it has M C on the side. It does not have the diamonds on the grips and one of the grips may have been replaced because it looks a little newer than the other. I love my old wheel guns and this one will definitely get a lot of holster time. Thanks again!

I have one other question. Does anyone know were I can get grips for the model 12? I would like to find a nice matching set.

Try posting a Wanted to Buy message here. This model has slightly thinner stocks than steel K frames of the era, so be sure to specify you are looking for ones fitting a 1960s alloy K frame.

MADE IN 1952 IT WAS MERELY A MODEL 10 WITH A LIGHT WEIGHT ALLOY FRAME AND CYLINDER. IN 1954 THE CYLINDER WAS REPLACED WITH A STEEL CYLINDER, DISCONTINUED IN 1986. GOOD LUCK
