My model 27-2 has a serial number of N169xxx I believe that would be 1973?

That is what the book says. Only a letter will tell exactly when it left the factory. Some frames were serialized, but then sat in inventory for some time. I have an S prefix 57 that the book and S&W both say was built in late '68, but Mr. Jinks has told me that it shipped from the factory in June '70.
