David Johansen, former lead singer of the Glam Rock band, The New York Dolls has passed at 75.

He may be better known by his alter ego Buster Poindexter, who had hits such as 'Hot, Hot, Hot' and Christmas classic 'Zat You Santa Clause'.

David also played in several movies with his most notable being the cabbie/ghost of Christmas past in 'Scrooged' and Richard Dreyfus' buddy in 'Let It Ride'.

If you have never listened to any of his music, other than his two hits, and you like blues style songs, give some Buster Poindexter a shot.

RIP David.

Who the heck paid any attention to a glam rock band? Roy Orbison he isn't.

Apparently enough people that his passing made all the national news feeds and some overseas. Not to mention his family, friends, fans (of which I am one) and the countless people he had contact with over a 50 year entertainment career.

I didn't know that posting an RIP for a celebrity was the place to debate who was better.

Have you ever heard the old saying "If you have nothing good to say then say nothing at all".

Or from "Spies Like Us': "We mock what we don't understand".

I found your comment very disrespectful, not that it will matter to you.

Have a good day.

A lot of people from our past are dying off. Age happens. The Dolls had some pretty good stuff. I was never able to tell how they dressed or presented themselves through the radio, so that glam stuff never really bothered me. I like a lot of Bowie and Marc Bolin (T Rex) stuff, too, along with Holly, Beatles, Herman's Hermits, even the Monkees! The 50s thru 70s had a lot of good music, only my opinion. 75 years old isn't really that old anymore, but there are tons of recorded entertainment where we can listen to whoever we like. How they dressed never bothered me.
R I P David.

I got to meet and party with him back in the mid 80's.
I was working as set sparky for couple years.
Very nice guy.
His first question, " anyone have any sheets ?" aka:rolling papers
RIP

I am a fan. Many times I have covered "Hot Hot Hot" and it was/is a perennial crowd pleaser.

As soon as the audiences heard "ole-ole, ole-ole" it was a mad dash for the dance floor. It was a great sing-along as everyone knew the lyrics.

It has become one of the most requested songs at wedding receptions.

The song lives on.

The NY Dolls had some good music. Their looks were not to my taste, but they could rock.

Buster Pointdexter was OK, but really more of a money maker IMHO. Not judging, we all have to live.

He shined as the ghost cabbie in Scrooged. That's how I'll remember him.

RIP David Johansen.

I forgot all about David Johansen until I heard that he had passed. Here he is doing a Medley of songs by the Animals. He was a great entertainer with a powerful voice.
