Yeah well I don't care for some guns. Plastic revolvers, tiny plastic autos, any kind of gun that does not function well and always has problems. Springs that look like they come out of a cap gun, or a barrel stuck in there some weird way.

Definition can be anything you want...

I- Handguns:
a) Colt Model 1911A1 in .45 ACP;
b) Smith and Wessson Model 10 4-inch .38 Special

II-Shotguns:
a) Remington 870 pump action 12 gauge shotgun
b) Stevens Model 311 double barreled 12 gauge shotgun

III- Rifles:
a) Winchester Model 94 lever action rifle
(including all calibers)
b) Mauser Model 1896 bolt action rifle

Any of these would be a "real gun" by your description. All are like Marine Corps toilet paper (rough, tough and etcetcetc) and would fill just about any purose a firearm could be used for.

A picture is worth . . . .

I would think that any working, firing gun is a real gun. Each has its own purpose.

That said, I got a big laugh when I read that Col Cooper, when asked what he thought about the .25 ACP, said that he would rather be armed with a hatchet. :D

Who am I to dispute that? :D

I guess Just because you can make something and make it work, doesn't mean its a good thing..... "I wouldn't have one of those if you paid me"...kinda thing. even if it comes from Smith & Wesson.

Define real

My thought is define real. Real means solid, capable of being seen, touched as having substance. A cap gun is a real gun. A 1950 era zip gun is a real gun. My Rock River elite entry 5.56 cal. American Sporting rifle is not a real gun, it is a assault rifle in the minds of some. All my guns are real, they do what they were designed to do. hold a cartage in place and to cause a striking motion that causes a control explosion and the energy produced to propel a projectile down a rifle tube while causing the projectile develop a spin to stabilized the projectile in it's journey to a intended target. There are many designs to cause this action to take place.

Pardner, the one I'm prepared to use when the going gets tough is as real as it gets, and anybody who thinks different isn't soon to forget the lesson in reality I'll be forced to teach. Their choice, not mine.

I'm just sayin', and just keepin' it real.

REAL guns, huh?OK, here's my ideas:

Browning Hi-Power
Colt SAA
S&W M&P, Combat Masterpiece, Combat Magnum, K-22 and Heavy Duty

Rifles:
Winchester M1885 HighWall
M94
M70 (Pre '64)
M1 Garand
M1 Carbine
