Two of the most colorful General's we ever had were George Patton and Curtis LeMay.
Both are well known for their involvement in firearms.
Both also 'designed' military boots which were originally made by the Dehner Co in Ohama.

George Patton pretty much started the U.S. tank corps while stationed in France during War One.
We used French tanks cause we didn't have any. George literally went from Cavalry to Armor.
And of course he never gave up on the Cavalry uniforms and boots.
So later on he decided that tankers needed a strap secured boot, similar to some he had seen in France.
So he got with folks at Dehner and the result was the Tanker Boot.
The first time I ever saw a pair they were worn by a new AF Squadron Commander.
They are also worn by the AF Thunderbirds and the Navy Blue Angels.
I have seen them worn by a few other AF guys, but never actually saw an Army trooper wear any.
Army?
Later on, Curtiss LeMay , SAC Commander decided that U.S. SAC alert force should have some easy to zip up alert boots.
So he and the folks at Dehner came up with the Alert boot.
Early on, the Astronauts also wore them.
I was issued a pair. Some folks really liked them, but I never really liked them that much.
They were insulated, we were indoors most of the time, and I tend to run hot.
I wish I had them back!
Dehner did and does make boots for the 'stars'. One well known horseman named Ron Reagan was a long time customer.

And the SAC Alert boot.
Almost makes me want to go under ground for a week!

You could get a piece that laced over the tongue of your jump boots that had the zipper. Not many did it except the APs. The rest of us just lace them up and went on. We weren't on alert status and didn't blouse our pants so really wasn't worth the trouble.

Somewhere I think I still have a pair of the zippers that lace into the jump boots, were pretty convenient. They were much used in the 60's at my TAC base with B66 Bombers an alert with nuk's on board in England.

On first reading I thought the name was Dahmer. I was wondering what the heck these boots were made of.

I didn't realize Dehner had such a wide variety of footwear and military history. I was just issued a pair of Dehner mounted boots, for riding in formal attire at work. They are very comfortable, for boots that go almost to my knees, and they look like high quality boots that will last a long time. Thanks to the OP for posting the info!

I don't think I ever used the zipper in my boots when I was an APE:D, but then again my memory is not what it used to be:(. I used the ladder lace and the spider lace though. I also liked the hard capped toes jump boots more than the soft toed ones. I did have one pair of the hard capped ones that I had tripled soled and heeled, for humping the flight line at Clark Air Base, PI. They were very comfortable for walking on the pavement.

Traded them to another Air Policeman for a six pack of beer and a new pair of the soft toed boots, when I was re-assigned to Webb Air Force Base, Tx.
