I love watching his doccumentaries on PBS. I am just mesmerized by those films. I think some of it has to do with his naration.
I'd have to check the credits, but I don't think it is his voice you are hearing during the narration. However, the narration is excellent and the voice is perfect for the film........

Snub ... I've been remiss in ordering a copy of this video for my library. You have motivated me to do just that. I think Swerer productions offers various package deals on the DVDs and book.
This morning it was a crisp and quiet 3* ... I looked out the front door before going to work, and noticed a clear blue sky and pale moon low in the sky. It was beautiful ... cold, but beautiful. I thought about Dick Proenneke, and started my day with a knowing smile.

I used to go winter backpacking. Being up on a snow covered mountain ridge under a clear blue sky has a beauty all it's own.
Just be sure to invest in a good pair of glacier glasses.
