UPDATED: 4:42 pm PDT May 8, 2009

HILLSBORO, Ore. -- A 51-year-old woman was accidentally shot in the stomach Friday afternoon, Hillsboro police said.
Officers said the woman and her husband were getting ready to leave their home on Connell Street when one of them tossed a jacket over a chair. Police said a handgun in the jacket pocket discharged a .357 round, striking the woman in the abdomen.
Police said the gun didn't have a trigger guard or a safety.
Her husband immediately called 911, bringing rescuers and police to the scene.

The woman's injuries weren't life-threatening and she was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital via ambulance. Police said the woman was conscious and said it was an accident. Although they believe the shooting was an accident they said they must look at all aspects and are investigating the incident. No one has been arrested.

Well, with a .357 Patterson Colt Pocket Model, I'd say it was an accident just waiting to happen!

I wouldn't want to be anywhere near a patterson colt in 357 when it went off!!!
Wonder if she was hit by the bullet or a piece of the cylinder

I have an 1860 Colt replica in 44 Magnum. Seriously. It was half converted by someone to 44. No shoulder in the chambers. I had John Gren finish it and have a great looking conversion with ejector rod that shoots great with 44 Spl. blackpowder only handloads. But will chamber 44 Magnum!

What was the idea of carrying something like that around loaded? Are they headed off to compete in a Cowboy Action Match?

Even then, what about the "empty chamber under the hammer" rule? If you're foolish enough to consider that a carry piece, you're bound to have problems.
