Did I get flim flammed??

I was at the Fort Lauderdale Gun Show this morning and I bought a "used" S&W 1911 from a Smith dealer. The box says model #608285, the shell casing envelope is dated 12/22/05. The pistol is Shinny bright. The dealer said it was a Smith demo from the factory this way. I asked if the pistol was nickled or polished Stainless Steel. The dealer assured me the pistol was polished Stainless Steel. The serial number on the frame JFR 85XX mathces the box but there are no markings on the obviously Smith slide.
Does this sound right?

Call S&W Monday (800-331-0852) and give them the serial number, they can tell you just how it left the factory.

I vaguely remember some discussion a while back about some stainless 1911s with unmarked slides. As I recall, these slides were originally intended for use in producing some of the fancied-up limited production guns during 2004 - (United We Stand, Long May It Wave, Land of the Free, Stars and Bars, Mexican Eagle).

There were apparently some extra guns that weren't used for those fancy limited production runs, and they somehow made it into the market-place. As I recall, some were distributed by Davidson's.

The model # 608285 is not listed in SCSW-3. A model # 108285 is for a blue steel fixed-sight gun. You might call S & W customer service and see if they can tell you anything about that model # and the gun.

Now keep in mind that I'm old and my mind sometimes plays tricks on me. So, if I'm wrong, maybe someone will come along and tell you the real story.

I have seen the 6 used in the first digit (in leu of the 1)to indicate a factory refurbished or maybe "demo" gun used a 1911 box before.

I just so happened to have the 2005 catalog. No where does it mention polished SS as a standard production finish. You may have a special order/ as you mentioned a demo gun, the rep had polished up to show off. Just one of the many mysteries we encounter with S&W on certain guns. Hey look at it this way, you may have a one of a kind in some kinda way. Go shoot it. I really like my SW1911PD, you will to.

Thanks guy's, I spoke to CS at S&W this AM. They said the pistol was originally Carbon steel and was made with only rear cocking serrations. The dealer has been honest with me for years. I believe a sales rep polished out the roll markings
and magazine safety warning and hard chromed the pistol to a nickle bright finish. Either way it makes no difference to me. If you like a shiny pistol, this is it no question.
