Did record-setting NRA convention cement decline of anti-gun lobby?

How ever quiet they may be, the anti-gun, anti-self defense crowd did not and will not give-up or go away.
I think it obvious that some like the new Senator from New York are strongly influenced by which way the electoral wind is blowing. But I think they are in the minority.
The majority has conviction, they are true-believers. I am not going to waver in my support for the 2nd Amendment; they will remain just as steadfast against it.

I think Heller turned the tide in our favor,
but the concept of Supreme Court decisions as precedent is a weak one to rely on to protect the RKBA-think of Bowers vs. Hardwick in 1986 then Lawrence vs Texas in 2003. What we will see is a great deal of "Cafeteria Constitutionalism", attempts to create semi-autonomous city-states, the push for "reasonable" restrictions on the RKBA, outright defiance. International treaties or agreements implemented by Executive Order. We still have a long way to go but the paddling is easier with the tide.

IDK, I think they are waiting for something major to happen so they can get more ground, but with all the irresponsible gun owners and thugs and psychos running around we are going to have to work harder to show that those people make up a small percentage of the gun owning community

Remember that the Heller ruling affirms the individual right to bear arms as well as keep them. Heller is already having more positive effects in our favor than a lot of us thought it would. I think combined with 1994, some Dem's get it (reluctantly), thus the recent passage of the credit card bill and it's guns in National Parks attachment. Imagine the outrage over that if it was done before Heller, say during the Clinton years, where it would never have passed. I also think the coniving anti's will NEVER give up, and they are the reason we must stay in this beyond our time.
Crazy K38, you are so right. These mass shootings in offices and such by these nut cases are going to be something we must deal with. They are the biggest threat to our freedom, because sooner or later they will turn the neutral in to anti's. IMO it is a mistake to think we can just point out the 2A as a defense of our interests when society tries to deal with these crimes. In the long term we may yet find ourselves having to compromise on some of our traditional stances.

Coleman --- great post, and an assiduous observation of the convention &tc.!

Now if we could just stop hoarding ammunition. The anti-gun zealots are getting comic relief at the way we are acting like crazed alarmists over this ammo thing.

It would have been much more effective if these new zealots had voted pro Constitution back in November.

In your dreams......You ain't seen nothing yet. The Messiah will move on gun owners with in his first administration. Unless he losses congress. Or the Dems regain their senses. Look at Reid and Pelosie and ask yourself are those two going to give up. Reid is elected by a state that is a gun lovers utopia, but he is anti gun as it gets and he still gets elected.
