Did S&W start putting the Shield type trigger

I can attest that the M&P that I picked up a few days ago (test fired 12/16/12) had a much different trigger than some of the other ones in the case with earlier test fire dates.

The trigger wasn't exactly like the shield, but it was less spongy and had a cleaner break than the other M&P's there.

But that could have been my imagination.

in the FS or the 9c?

I would ask S&W. And not customer service. Go directly to Joe Bergeron, one of the honchos on the M&P design team, and I believe, the person either presently or at least recently in charge of auto pistol production at S&W. Better yet, if someone is going to the SHOT Show, ask him there and report back. :)

Easy to test. Pull the trigger fully back and hold it there. Rack the slide and start slowly letting the trigger out. At reset you should hear a fairly loud "click", but most important the trigger will feel like it jumps forward 1/32 inch. This is the tactile feel of the reset, you can feel it. Hearing the reset does no good in a noisy environment, but feeling it will tell you when you have reached the reset.

There was another thread on here or perhaps on The Firingline not so long ago where someone called S&W and they claimed the changing of the triggers was merely misinformation and it didn't come from them.

S&W claimed that the trigger change wouldn't and even couldn't happen because that meant they would be on the hook to "update" every M&P out there to the new trigger.

To add (my own opinion), I would doubt that they could quietly make a change without someone noticing the change in a part or two. My opinion is there is no change that has happened otherwise we would have seen something official or even a new part number.

That would be a lame excuse. By that logic, nobody would ever upgrade their product for fear of being forced into free updates. Products (including guns) get improved all the time. Unless it's a recall situation, nobody gets a free upgrade because of it.

I agree S&W has no obligation to update triggers, or anything else. They warranty the guns to perform to factory standards, when the gun left the factory. Not to update older guns to the newer guns design. If gun companies are not going to make updates, then how do we get different generations of guns? There has been several gun magazines that reviewed the Shields, when they were introduced. The magazines reported that S&W stated they were going to eventually incorporate the Shield new trigger design into the full M&P line. The word was eventually and who knows how long that will take.
