Did the 640 (no dash) .38 ever come in a satin finish?

Just curious if the original model 640 ever came in a satin finish.

I have seen several of the original 640s in a shiny stainless steel but recently saw one in satin. Wasn't sure if original or refinish.

Thanks for any information.

The 640-2 (NYPD approved DAO .38 Special on the J Magnum frame) has a matte stainless finish; can't recall a 640 with this.

I have one of the earlier models with a CEN prefix. While not polished, it doesn't have a bead blasted matte finish.

Mine does but I made it that way. It is my second 640 no dash and the brushed finish looked a little scuffed and scratched in areas, apparently carried but fired little. I put it in a glass bead cabinet disassembled and gave it a nice satin finish, covering up the blems. I had previously owned a model 60 with satin finish and liked that. I took the additional measure that even factory did not do on the 60 and installed rubber stoppers in the chambers and barrel so they remained smooth and shiny inside. Also putting a high polish on the top of the cylinder stop reduces ringing the cylinder a great deal.
