I got the spring kit, tore the gun down, used an Arkansas stone to polish all contact spots as per the video, replaced the stock springs with the new ones, replaced the firing pin and spring, and got it all put back together. Other that a few of my fingers still being numb from re-installing the parts, everything went pretty smooth. I am convinced that the polishing really added to the smoothness of the action. This drop-in spring kit is a great product and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to reduce the trigger pull and increase the smoothness of a 642 or similar revolver.

Definitely interested on hearing more on this kit, the video, is that from their site?

DROP IN KIT

No extra tools. If you have the tool to remove the slide spring, it would help but I got it back in with a straight slot screwdriver. I did purchase a three inch by quarter inch square Arkansas stone. They are pretty proud of them but it will last forever. It really isn't difficult. I watched the video on You-tube about three times before I did it. I think the trigger pull is around 8 1/2 lbs. and as I stated in the earlier post, it is also much smoother.

Have you fired it much since installing the kit? Do you still get reliable ignition?

I've had it to the range once so far. Shot 150 rounds of 158gr +P JHP and 15 rounds 135 gr Speer Gold Dot SB. Every one went bang on first try.

Spring Kit

I am going to the range today. Will post results later in the day.

Really smoothed out!

I was able to get about 80% center mass at seven yards today. I know that isn't terrific but for me, who has shot a revolver exactly two times, it was sure rewarding. Noticeable difference in the lighter trigger and smoothness of the travel. Sure seemed to be able to hold on target through the trigger pull.

:(

About 12# average for 10 pulls on my Lyman Gauge before, 10.5# average for ten pulls after installing the kit. Not exactly a huge change, I got pretty much the same results or better just using Wolff springs in my last J-Frame.

To be fair over the past several years my trigger guage has a history of turning "Yep boys my new revolver has a SWEET trigger pull, right about eight pounds I figure!" into myth WAY more often than not ;)

One of the great pleasures in Smiths is learning to do a decent slickem & spring job on one's revolver.
