Difference Between Fed 525 and 550

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the federal 525 packs and the 550 packs? I know the 525 packs are blue and the other ones are red but wasnt sure why they had two different bulk packs. I always run the 525 boxes through my M&P with good results considering it's bulk ammo.

All the stats are the same. The red 550s are a WalMart thing, I believe.

Um......except for the velocity/energy/bullet drop.

Red box 1260 fps at muzzle/ 1000 fps @ 100 yards. 5.6" drop at 100 yards.

Blue box 1280 fps at the muzzle/ 1020 fps @ 100 yards. 3.4" drop at 100 yards.

Says so plain as day on the back of the boxes.

The difference is 25 more rounds in the 550 pack. It is the same ammo just packaged differently.

Your data is suspect. 20 fps wouldn't be a 2.2" difference in drop! Did you quote the data correctly? Or is the zero distance different on these charts? Just asking....

Perhaps Federal recently changed their 745 load to conform with their 750 load?

This ammo was purchased 12/2010 at bi-mart in Ashland.
I've known for years that it was different from the 750 load (WallyWorld).

I just came from a big box store and the 525 packs now say 1260 fps.

It must be a recent change, because I have older boxes of both 525 and 550 round and they are the exact same specs...


Federal prob. figured out that they could pul a grain less in every round and no one would notice, but they'd have um-teen million dollars a year..

Walmart is the only place that has the 550rd boxes though.

Bought the fed 525 bulk pack from Dunn's sporting goods today for $13.99 today, great price, bought 3. Had to decide on blazer's brick or fed 525 bulk pack the blue box for the same price. Although 2 weeks ago I bought 5 bricks of blazers from dunn's, only got 2 bricks left.
