Differences in m&p pistols?

Good afternoon,

I'm familiar with many lines of guns and the differences between them but not the m&p series.

I see the mp 9L, 9, 2.0, VTAC, some pro series etc.

For 9mm competitive shooting, what would be the best gun to look into and to improve upon?

What is the mp equivalent to the glock 34? The 9mm which id consider their best competitive pistol.

Perhaps there is a pistol that can Objectively surpass the glock 34, just like sigs p320 x5 did.

The equivalent of the G34 is the M&P Pro 5", which comes with a 4 to 5# trigger and FO front sight.
You need to specify exactly what competition you plan to enter; the Pro 5" comes set up for IDPA/SSP and USPSA Production, and you are limited to internal work to improve function/reliability. If you show up with APEX FSS or ports, you are pushed up into high-dollar Divisions where an M&P is an also-ran.
The CORE is an M&P Pro with tall sights, ports, and a place to add optic sights. It fits into USPSA Carry Optic Division provided you use a non-ported barrel. The CORE and Pro triggers are the same, and the internal APEX kits are allowed and useful.
Some people shoot major 9mm in a CORE in USPSA Open Division, with any mods allowed; the ammo usually results in heavy damage/destruction of the pistol.
IDPA has courtesy category of "not for competition" for anyone who brings an illegal gun to a club match, and IDPA is not port or optic friendly.
To emphasize, I strongly suggest you carefully read the rules of the competition you want to shoot, and buy/build a gun that fits their rules.
Personally, I shoot a stock M&P Pro 5" in IDPA/SSP and USPSA/Production using minor power 9mm ammunition.
