My LGS called me today and told me he has a Shield 45 that will be here next Weds, the problem is that I ordered the Shield W/O a safety and his dealer only had one with safety. My question is: do I take it or do I wait for unknown amount of time for a Shield with no safety? Yea I know just don't use the safety. Any body help? I'm inclined to take it!

I personally like the safety. Practice flipping off the safety while unholstering until it becomes muscle memory. Good luck with your decision and enjoy the 45ACP.

my compact and full size 9's do not have a safety so that's what I've gotten used to (so far range only, not carrying yet). The Shield PC i just picked up does have one. As that will be what would be carried i had no problem what it came with one (may have been the only option anyway).

Guess on point, it would depend on how badly I wanted that specific gun, how rare or how available they will be, and if i wanted to wait for a potential other version w/ no safety or take what's out there now.

On my 9mm Shield, the safety is recessed enough that it is unlikely to be activated accidentally, if that is your concern.
Personally, I've come to dislike safety's on CC firearms, and have changed what I carry to reflect that.

I practiced with the safety until I got comfortable flipping it off every time I draw. Now I find myself just leaving it off but still trying to flip it off when I draw because of all that Training. I think I'd rather have gotten one without it now. I will say that it's never accidentally flipped itself on, even loading into and out of holsters or range bags.

Train with it or just leave it off. I use mine.

I'm looking forward to checking out the Shield45.

Get the safety.

Don't want to use it?...disengage and forget about it. The odds of the Shield safety engaging/failing and a self defense situation is overwhelmingly low.

A safety allows more flexibility. I can Mexican carry, shove it into crevices such as a couch. or grab it in complete darkness without the anxiety of a ND.

Engage manual safety during holstering and once it's secure, disengage it and it's ready to go.

A non-safety firearm is less flexible in terms of carry and placement compare to a manual safety firearm.

I wish my MP9 full size had the unobtrusive Shield safety. I opted for the non-safety MP9 full size because the ambidextrous safety is so large and sticks out a good distance bilaterally on the firearm allowing a real possibility of unintended engagement/disengagement.
