I'm currently reading William Shirer's book entitled Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. I'm at the point where the German High Command realizes he is a threat to Germany's survival and something must be done ( time period 1938.. Hitler is threatening to invade Czechoslovakia).Quoting from Chapter 12 Road to Munich.. pg 372 .. Birth of a Conspiracy Against Hitler. " After five and a half years of National Socialism it was evident to the few Germans who opposed Hitler that only the Army possessed the physical strength to overthrown him. The workers, the middle and upper classes, even if they wanted to, had no means of doing it. They had no organization outside of the Nazi party group and they were , of course, unarmed.

And of course, by then it was too little, too late. Anyone who doubts this should take a trip to Germany and get a good look at Dachau.

Last summer some friends from Germany came to Florida on vacation. They asked me if I would take them to the range to go shooting as they have never fired a gun (except for the one friend who served in the German army 30 years ago). I took an assortment of guns and off we went. This particular range had an enormous gun shop. They were amazed by the firearms freedom we enjoy in this country. They are still not allowed to own guns there. When I mentioned to them that there were around 300 million guns owned by over 100 million citizens, they said, "Good, that will prevent from happening here what happened in Germany."
If we don't learn from history, we are bound to repeat it.

You need to correct your terminology; you disarm subjects or victims, not citizens.

It still isn't stopping the liberal progressives from trying.

Very sad, but very true. Some younger people actually believe it didn't happen. Has history been changed again?

Yep, that is the indoctrination that our youth is receiving from the public school system. They don't even teach American history like it was when I was in grammar school some thirty plus years ago. They don't teach about the atrocities of the Holocaust or the purges under Stalin and Mau. They do this in the hopes that if they get the young then they won't have to go through a lengthy fight for control. Ever wonder why the US is more and more like France or Germany every year.

Do they teach about slavery ? About the 3/5ths compromise? Do they teach about the slaughter of the first Americans by the European immigrants? The camps for Japanese Americans? Lynchings?

Probably not. Just the usual leave it to Beaver 1950s sanitized version.

I'm near Fort Bliss, which was the home of the German Air Force Air Defense School. As soon as they came over here, the first thing that many of them did was to buy arms, and the second was to go out to the Rod and Gun Club and burn all the ammo they could get their hands on. They came off the range with a big grin on their faces. Several of them were elected to the Rod & Gun Club board of governors. A shooting program on one of the locl TV channels interviewed them a few times.

My question is if they were German citizens, how do they buy guns here?

I understand their thrill of shooting.

What's the 3/5th compromise and when were the native Americans slaughtered?

Compromises

There is not enough room to adequately answer your second question, but I suggest readings about Sand Creek, Nome Cult Valley, Wounded Knee, and Bear Creek for a start.

I'll give it a try. Without GOOGLE or Wikipedia. Correct me if I'm wrong

The southern slave states were trying to get more representation in congress by counting slaves as citizens. The northern states were also vying for congressmen and they said "No you cannot count slaves as citizens. They are counted as property." So they compromised and counted slaves as 3/5 of a citizen for the purpose of obtaining congressional representation.

The main reason the south joined the American Revolution was that England was abolishing slavery and the southern slave owners were afraid the king would abolish it in the American colonies.

I'm southern born and southern bred but I ain't no racist. My great grandfather fought with Lumsden's Battery 2nd Alabama Light Artillery. He was 15 when he inlisted.

Sorry I seemed to have hi-jacked this thread.

disarmed Germans

if I recall correctly Germany's strict gun laws pre-dated Hitler and the Third Reich. Hitler didn't have to disarm German citizens....secondly Hitler was elected , he didn't
take over Germany by force he did so with devisive propaganda and fear.

for arguements sake let's say every German household was armed. how many Germans in the 1930's would have taken up arms against the SS , or the regular army?

as Germany militarized the average German man was indeed well armed.

while there were several attempts on Hilter's life by military officers there were no armed revolts against the Reich.

I think in the final analysis it would not have made any difference if German households had guns or not...

I'm 32 and I was taught and have read about our past transgressions.

We can all thank Texas for the contents of the school books. They write / approve everything our kids/grand kids are taught. History as it was, is out of sight and out of mind for the next ( present? ) generation.

I read a news story that Texas was making sure that their
text books weren't too liberal, which I applaud. Please don't tell me that they glossed over some/all of the bad stuff. History is what it is,
and should be presented with all the warts and blemishes in place.
Anybody that thinks hiding history is a good thing, is only setting
students up for a real nasty awakening, when something happens
that they never foresaw. JMHO, TACC1.
