My B.S. detector says yes. Does anyone have any experiences or insight they'd like to share?
Thanks;

I cant say my last realtor lied, but I can say that she sure as hell did not tell me all she knew that was going to happen in the neighbor hood. Bought a house on a cul de sac, NO TRAFFIC, NOW have an four lane road by the house and damn close to it, 25-30 k cars a day

A lot of time realtors will withhold or distort the truth about something important about the property to make a sale. I would rate them along side used car salesmen in the honesty department.

Like a used car salesman. I believe probably more now than this time last year. With sales in the tank extreme times call for extreme measures. Maybe not lie enough to get into legal trouble, but to make that sell? YOU BETCHA!

Of course they lie. Our 2nd realtor in this area didn't even disclose that she was working for the seller and it was her own listing she was pushing onto us.

And when we said we were going to lowball our first offer, she told her client that, and his response to us was "Try again."

Needless to say, we bought our house from the third realtor.

Dishonesty lives in all professions. It seems more common in some (used car salesmen, jounalists, auto mechanics) and less common in others (Nurses, firefighters). Where in this line up do realtors fall? I would guess slightly to the honest side of used car salesmen.

Geez, with these types of responses you'd think he asked about politicians!

Just curious, Neil - was there a specific circumstance that inspired you to pose the question?

The only responses I will wholeheartedly endorse as being the most accurate (having been in the industry since 1981) are from Klas and Lucky Derby.

Better question: Will many human beings lie for money or other personal gain? Let the person without sin cast the first stone. I do not have a rock in my hand!

It wasn't until I began working for the federal government that I found out that the ninth commandment had been changed to "Thou shalt not bear false witness, except to the government".

when I was first trying to break into ad sales, my biggest "fault" was NOT tweaking the truth to my clients. My growth was a lot slower than all of my colleagues. It was, however, based on results, trust and a solid relationship. Now, I am the only one left of the 8 people hired with me. Honesty is definitely the best policy.

All of these dishonest realtors are missing out on the referrals they could otherwise be getting. That amounts to a lot more money than making out on one or two deals. Of course, it is a sign of the moral vacuousness that our society suffers.

I saw a realtor's sign that said "Lots for Sale"....the liar didn't have a damn thing for sale there---the sign was sitting in the middle of a big, empty field!

One of my first real jobs I soon made foreman. I did it for about two years then they wanted me to take shortcuts, and fire a guy to scare the others into working harder. I quit.
The realitor woman I used here in cedar city I bought two houses from is real straight, no lies, I found to be honest and no problem.

I've been looking @ real estate and don't entirely trust the guidance my Buyer Broker Realtor is giving me. I sense that the broker will omit any negatives or answer my questions with the best answer for the purpose of expediting my offer. What annoys me is that if the broker would give me the "straight stuff" I could conclude my shopping and make an offer. I won't "dive into the pond" until I know what the bottom looks like like.

heiljrosen, I doubt she knows where the bottom is any more than you or I do. We all are guessing.

I'm not talking about the bottom of the real estate market, what I mean is I want to get all the facts re: the neighborhood, SPDS, HOA's, Negotiation, etc.
