Hello!

I just added a 1979 Model 29-2, 6.5 inch barrell to my inventory and recognized that the sight blade has not the original heigth of .146 inch that is documented in the J. Kuhnhausen Shop Manual. Someone must have changed this over the years.

As new sight blades are easily to source, even here in Germany, I would be glad if somebody can give me an advise, if the recent original spare part sight blades + windage screws fit into the old N-Frame rear sight.

Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Simple answer is yes. The rear sight parts are the same from post WWII clear into the 1980s, probably still current. The only difference is the windage screw had a flat head in the early days but was changed to round head about 1960.

Call S&W customer service and tell them you need a rear sight slide kit, ask for the spring and plunger too as you will probably lose them when you take the sight apart! 800-331-0852. They will only need to know how high the sight you need is and they will ask for the serial number of your gun too. S&W will sell the parts for less than any after market retailer, and they won't charge shipping either like everyone else does.!

To measure your sight height run the slide all the way out to the left, then measure the height of the portion protruding with a micrometer or dial caliper.

Guten Morgen, und willkommen im Forum! You've added a very nice S&W Model 29-2 to your collection. Yes, the new rear sight blades will work nicely, and if you can obtain the parts in Germany that would be the best option. Here in the USA, in addition to S&W, you can purchase rear sight blade kits from Midway USA and Brownell's. Viel Gluck, und Gluckwunsch!
