Do you carry in a "gun-free zone?

What do you do when faced with a "no guns" sign at a private business?

Based on a couple other threads, I'm wondering that if you are legal to conceal carry and start to go into a privately-owned store with a sign on the door that says "no guns", what do you do?

Disarm and then go back to the store to ask the owner/manager what their rational for the "no guns" policy is. Depending on their answer I will tell then they have just lost my business forever.

I voted to turn around and go elsewhere, with the exception of the VA, since that's my only healthcare option currently. The closest LGS to me even has a no gun policy! The sign I saw that made the most sense, "guns must be unloaded or remain concealed at all times".

Understand about the VA, and other "public" facilities. I was just curious about "private" business owners.

In OHIO it's a CIVIL TRESPASS issue, not a criminal one.

I was under the impression that in Ohio it's a civil trespass if you're in the parking lot but a criminal one if you enter the building. Or maybe it's civil until they ask you to leave and it becomes criminal if you refuse. Or something.

Can anyone clarify?

I think gun owners have to be responsible and obey the laws...even those we don't agree with. There are other means to get laws changed...getting arrested for violating them isn't the way to do that. I think we need to work with our legislative officials and through the NRA to effect change.

Also, even though we disagree, remember that store owners have rights too...and if they don't want guns in their store, that is their right. We don't want our rights to carry to be taken away...but some people don't want guns forced on them either.

I didn't choose the "never go back" option, because for one thing, every gun shop I have been to is posted as a no-carry store (imagine that?) Also, there are some stores/facilities that I don't have other options to choose.

I switched from Sprint to Verizon when it was time to renew. Went to the Sprint store, no guns.

Went across the street to Verizon, gun friendly. At least they don't have a no gun sign.

I would add that if enough people take the attitude that they will carry wherever they damn well please we may find ourselves slowly losing the right to carry again.

Retail establishments,

I just avoid.

The problem I have is the medical offices, hospitals, etc, that have no or very little security, and are posted.

I think everyone must make their own decisions.

They can keep out anyone for any reason, *except* for being a member of a specified protected group.
Example - a restaurant can post a sign "No shoes, no shirt, no service" and they can exclude members of any group on that basis. Including the groups you listed. If the excluded person then dresses as specified, they must be let in.

I do not have a right to violate another persons rights. Private property rights, as violated as they are by beurocracies and government agencies, are well established in the Constitution. Somebody doesn't want me to wear a mask on their property, it's their right though no law may prevent it. Somebody doesn't want me to carry on their property, also their right though I may not agree with it.

in illinois, we dont have to worry about if its ok or not to go some place with a gun......the whole state is NO GUN!!

Where I live there are "gun free zones" and there are places that are posted with signs. The gun free zones are government buildings, areas, hospitals etc. in these areas it is a felony to carry except in a publicly accessible parking lot.

If a private building is posted it is illegal to carry a gun BUT it is not considered a crime unless the police are called and you refuse to remove the gun from the premisis. Normally I don't frequent these businesses unless one is the only one available.
I don't like to leave my gun in the car but will if I necessary.

If I were to come across an LGS that was posted you can bet your sweet bippy I wouldn't go in ever.

Are you required to stop and read everything posted on the front window of every establishment?;) I am far sighted or is it near sighted?, I do not think I have ever seen one of those signs.;)

Federal buildings, Bars, Sports arenas, Schools etc, no I would not carry in any of those places as that is a major offense.

Private business, they can ask you to leave IF they somehow know you are carrying. If they do ask, then you need to leave.

If you end up boycotting every store or business you will not have many places to go.

If in doubt its concealed thats all.
Government establisment no.

I just carry it and dont read the signs, no one else does.

That massacre in Colorado really got me carrying even more, especially when i go to malls, movies etc,.

In those places i just make extra sure no one can tell.
I think people worry too much.
