Saw the topic about bad TV commercials. Didn't want to clutter that thread with posts about GOOD commercials.

Herewith, a few of my favorites:

I like these, but I've been a Lara Cox fan since she played Finn on The Lost World.

That's Lara's real accent in the wombat plea. She had a voice coach, and can fake a US accent when she has to, but she's as Australian as a kangaroo.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAX6HSQuNAI This is a video made by a fan of the TV show. Lara Cox as Finn is the chick in the black outfit, with the crossbow. The others are Rachel Blaklely (brunette) and Jennifer O'Dell, the only American on that program. The superb music is the "Harem" track by Sarah Brightman, from her CD of the same name.

The girl in the pot hole commercial cracks me up. She's got to be from west Texas. Also Toby the dog ,with his new trick.

Why is it that no one can sell anything on TV commercials anymore unless you have an English or Australian accent? Who decided that? Who was so brilliant?
I immediately tune them out, no matter what they are selling.

I haven't noticed that. But the Geico lizard sounds Cockney to me. Some said here recently that they thought it was Aussie. Those members haven't heard many Australians speak.

If you're referring to the commercial that I posted where Lara is pleading for funds and research to save wombats, that was made for the Australian market, where she lives. And where wombats live...;)

I like two, but honestly cannot tell you what product either is selling.

1. The little boy and the red truck..where the guy give him a cardboard one and he says, "That's a piece of JUNK."..my thoughts on most commercials.

2. The one where the guy tells Charlie the dog to take the skateboard outdoors to skateboard.

Both are entertaining...However neither has managed to get me interested in the product being offered.

Not the Lara commercial, I like that one.

I too think the gecko is definately speaking cockney.

It's the others that grate me wrong. SPEAK AMERICAN!

Only. Oh, commercials, nah! A necessary evil partially controlled by....wait for it........SIP.

The commcercials are all too often MORE entertaining than the programs.
2 of my favorites:
1. Wendy's "Russian Fashion Show" from 1985 or so. TV Guide had an article on the top 100 TV commercials, that one was on the list.
2. "Are you driving a sponge on wheels". That was aired by one the big
NYC banks in the 1960s to sell car loans. You see a man actually driving a big sponge in traffic. Ine one scene he goes to fill it up, the pump reads $70.00-when gas was $0. 25 a gallon. In another scene the attendant starts adding oil, then you see a big pile of oil cans.

YouTube - The Lost World - The Impostors 4/5

Lara Cox in a clip from The Lost World, where she played Finn in the third and final season. You can watch the whole episode there, if you want. It is called The Imposters. Finish that episode here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtvAGIfmVdc&NR=1

See how many of the guns you can ID, mostly seen after the bad guys capture her and when she escapes. Watch for the moment when she spins the cylinder of the COCKED Webley MK VI, which is nickled, with white grips.

Lara is a very versatile, talented actress. I hate to see her having to take commercials to make ends make. But she does them well.

There is a new one out where an old guy has fallen down a well, and the dog (a border collie) trys to tell the owner about it ala "Lassie". The guy is trying to pick out the picture for his Capital One credit card, and keeps ignoring the dog. Too funny! You will just have to see it.
