The title of the thread says it all. Do you shoot 7.62 x 51 in your M&P 10? Why or why not?

I have taken mine to the range once and so far the accuracy is pretty good, and I'm not... :) Best group was sub MOA (7/8" with Hornaday match 168gr HPBT) but spent most of my time zeroing and shooting with my wife. I bought several different brands and loads to see what the rifle really likes, and I accidentally bought a box of gold medal match 7.62x51 175gr. Oopsie, should I shoot it through my new baby? This is my first .308 if you can't tell. Thanks for the input!

I don't have one, but I went to the S&W website and looked at the listings they showed for the M&P 10 rifles and all show they are good to go with either .308 Winchester or 7.62x51 ammo. If they say so on their website, then I would think you are golden to let her rip.

7.62x51 vs 308 doesn't have the same pressure concerns as 5.56 vs 223. 7.62 is good to go. I personally avoid steel case though - just brass.

Nato ammo is under powered compared to 308. You might have an issue with a dry bolt short stroking. Had that issue with ZQ1. I actually have run a ton of Tulammo 150gr steel and never a hiccup. Pretty damn accurate as well.
