I was at the range the other day, testing out a new bullet in my 9mm pistol.

In my post, I stated that the new loads felt very "Healthy" and
that they were probably all near or in the +P area, due to the felt recoil.

I took five of the cases home and "Mic'ed" them, to see what the base of the case came to.

Two stations down, was another shooter with a 9mm that was making more noise, than my loads.
I picked up two of his cases, that were on the floor, with his permission, and brought them home, also.

I feel really good about my loads after looking at his cases and getting some numbers on them.

I don't Know if the CBC cases were factory loads or his "Brews"
but they got my attention !!

Know what you are loading in your guns.

Using Other People's Reloads

If you are fond of your guns, your eyes and your fingers, avoid this at all costs!

In another kingdom, Long ago and far away, I traded for a Hi-Power which came with a Planters Peanut can of reloads.
Cast Bullets with the cone nose.
From a Buddy! Mild Mannered Schoolteacher.
No sign of the Elmer Syndrome.
And those rounds shot well in the Hi-Power.
But when I loaded them in my Model 39, oh man!
They broke the extractor.

Over several years, I shot tens of thousands of reloaded lead .38 and 9mm, loaded by a friend of mine. I'd provide the components and he'd reload for a reasonable cost per round. Gotta say, tho, that there weren't any other people's reloads I'd shoot then or now. He was very smart and super-careful; I never had a single problem round from him.

I'd not hesitate to shoot the handloads of others if I knew they were experienced and competent handloaders and received their handloading education from books rather than being Internet/YouTube-educated.

The only other people whose ammo I shoot are named Winchester, Remington and Speer. We used to joke that if you wanted to see a parts diagram of your gun, all you had to do was shoot some of my dad's handloads.

My only bad experience was some 9mm ammo I bought at a gun show from a local commercial reloader. 500 rounds of them. The first few seemed a little peppy, then I had a case base blowout. Then another. No damage to the gun resulted however. I took the rest home and broke them all down to salvage the primed cases, powder, and bullets, then later reloaded them again, but with my own powder. I used up the recovered powder in something else, as I wasn't sure exactly what powder it was, so I treated it like it was Bullseye. I think I loaded some .38 Special wadcutters with light loads of it. It worked OK.

I used to buy 45acp 200g lswc from a guy that reloaded in volume out of an old house… you'd bring the brass back and trade them in on more reloads. Always fine.

To the OP… do you measure your fired primer diameter? Supposed to show pressure signs along with case base dia.

I haven't used someone else's handgun hand loads often, no more than 2-3 times over the years.

I've only used ammo loaded by someone else to try the ammo, not to acquire a bunch of it.

Of course, I've borrowed shotgun ammo on a hunt after running out of the extra ammo in my pocket. But commercial loads are more likely to be used in bird hunting than hand loaded ammo.
