Does pyrodex make good firecrackers???Need help with homemade firecrackers.

You'll probably make a lot of new friends with ATF agents....
Unfortunately you'll probably need to figure out a new way to make a living when it's all said and done.

Not worth the bang you'll get out of 'em.

While Pyrodex is much safer than plain old black powder, it is much harder to ignite. If you put a little on a paper plate, you can stick a lighter to it, and it might take almost a second for it to go off, and don't try that in the house! I once took an empty 7mm Mag. case, filled it with Pyrodex Ctg, and crimped the neck shut with pliers. I had decapped it and run co-ax speaker wire through the hole, stripped the ends and wound them slightly with the ends apart. I plugged the other end of the wires into a 100ft extension cord. I scooped out a small hole at the back of the yard, put my "device" in the hole and covered it with an old sheet metal, round BBQ grill. I then unrolled the extension cord back to a plug at the back of the house. Mind you, that I had tried this before using smokeless rifle and pistol powder, and smaller rifle cases with somewhat boring results. I plugged the cord in and, BOOM! The grill flew over six feet straight up, turned over and landed on it's legs. It sounded like an M-80. This occured 30 years ago, and I lived in the country. Warning: just because I was a young fool exercising poor judgement, does not mean you should too. You could blow your eyes out. (Damn, it was cool.)

ive found CO2 ctgs that are strangely turned inside out. wonder what would cause that ?
ive hurt myself enough times doing regular stuff, i wont even try to build a "device" ill watch others though...from a distance.

Back when I was about 13 a few of my friends were building firecrackers with 6" iron pipe and red dot.We got away with it,but another kid we knew didn't.We stopped after that.

I'll bring the beer, boudin and bandages if you'll let me watch. From a distance, please.

When I was a kid we used to shoot marbles out of a pipe cannon until one day we got the bright idea to pack the powder and blew the thing up"eek".
I've used a mixture of shaved match heads and homemade black powder to spectacular results way back when as well. After posting I remembered a client who got into trouble with the feds for making firecrackers with pvc pipe so I guess I'll just dream of things going boom and get me some store bought ones instead......
What I wouldn't give for a gross of original M-80's though.................:D

This is what got me to thinking

I'm not saying "I" did it, but "I've heard" that 7.62X54 cases filled with pyrodex and the necks crimped shut around cannon fuse make a decent pop. Hmm, I wonder if there's any more of those cases lying around.

Cajun, if you weren't before, you probably are now on a gov't person-of-interest watch list! I had lots of fun with M-80's when I was a young kid, but I was lucky. I won't go into the details, but out of perhaps 144 M-80's, I only saw one dud, and if that dud was not a dud, IMHO there's a strong possibility I would have earned the nickname 8 fingers. I'm glad those things are illegal, for the sake of people who today area like the me of 40+ years ago. Don't mess with that stuff!

Just came back from the Fireworks store. It was packed and people where filling up plastic laundry baskets with Pyrotechnics. It's going to be noisy here on the coast tonight.

Got me some M150's and one M5000.

Hey Bubba Hold my beer and watch this.

And, what, carbide in a gallon paint can gets left out of this conversation!!??

Punch a hole in the can, spit, light, more volume of sound than any M-80 I grew up with. :D

When my uncle was a teenager, he and his friends would steal dynamite, fuse, and blasting caps from a quarry operation. They would put a quarter stick in a roll of toilet paper and blow it up. No one was ever hurt, but it is amazing how some people manage to survive their teenage years.
