While Pyrodex is much safer than plain old black powder, it is much harder to ignite. If you put a little on a paper plate, you can stick a lighter to it, and it might take almost a second for it to go off, and don't try that in the house! I once took an empty 7mm Mag. case, filled it with Pyrodex Ctg, and crimped the neck shut with pliers. I had decapped it and run co-ax speaker wire through the hole, stripped the ends and wound them slightly with the ends apart. I plugged the other end of the wires into a 100ft extension cord. I scooped out a small hole at the back of the yard, put my "device" in the hole and covered it with an old sheet metal, round BBQ grill. I then unrolled the extension cord back to a plug at the back of the house. Mind you, that I had tried this before using smokeless rifle and pistol powder, and smaller rifle cases with somewhat boring results. I plugged the cord in and, BOOM! The grill flew over six feet straight up, turned over and landed on it's legs. It sounded like an M-80. This occured 30 years ago, and I lived in the country. Warning: just because I was a young fool exercising poor judgement, does not mean you should too. You could blow your eyes out. (Damn, it was cool.)
