What a spectacle -- on national TV, talking heads babble platitudes, folks with ribbons, inane comments -- from a national stage -- with lots of applause for certain topics and comments and folks ready to judge everything that happens;

Discussions about the working class, about an immigrant,
about those who are "sheepdogs", those who defend, those who seem frivilous, .......................................................

Well, they did forget the ponies -- it was only dogs ............

At Westminster Dog Show, this evening:

chatty commentators debating the merits of the parti-color cocker vs the ASCOB cocker spaniel

handlers vying for breed and group ribbons

judges determining breed and group winners

a great Working Class (the Newfoundland and the St Bernards were crowd favorites)

the Clumber Spaniel champion, who was born and shown in South America and who is now being shown in the US

a wonderful Sporting Dog class -- the Flat-Coated retriever,
the English Setter, the American Water Spaniel among my favorites

those frivilous Toy dogs

the American dog -- the Labrador Retriever, along with the Golden Retriever, 2 of the most popular dogs in the US

the defenders -- Dobermans, Kuvasc, German Sheperds,

All in Madison Square Garden -- where I have had several of my dogs (Irish Setters, Gordon Setters, English Setters) shown. If you like dogs and have a chance to go, go and enjoy - you will enjoy it.

And, no, I was not talking about anything going on in Washington DC this evening.

The working class was great. Beautiful breeds...all but that poodle-looking thing that won. What was up with that?

I didn't really like the waterdog out of the working group, I thought the Boxer and the Dobie were much better. Terriers on now.

Colonel, that Gordons was gorgeous tonight! Have you had one go best in group?

I got three right now, 2 dachshunds and 1 "mix' shih tzu
rescue.
They'll never win any ribbons or even be shown but they
are my buddies and i would do just about anything to keep
them and keep them safe and happy.
Dogs bring "so much" joy and unconditional love to a family.
I too would like to know if any of your dogs won at Westminster
colonel.
The dogs that make it to that stage must be pretty special to
make it that far.

One of my favorite movies of all times...

I have had a Gordon that went BIS and multiple BIGs but not at Westminster.

Poodles were originally a working dog. The foofoo clips today evolved from practical cuts in the past that helped the dog in the water.

And there's not much foofoo about John Steinbeck... ;)

My Sister had two Standard Poodles, really great all around dogs. Super smart/ Like you say it's the hair cuts that make them look goofy.

:Like: Beautiful dawrg.

Love the Irishmen. OTHER people's Irishmen! ;) I can only imagine the grooming involved. My Cattle Dog grooming kit is a garden hose with sprinkle nozzle. :D

Some days the grooming is not a problem - other days....well, lets just say that clipping a moving target is a real challenge!!:p
