don't mess with the .44 Special

owning firearms I'm a kind of Dinosaur in Germany, where everyone thinks you are a potential killer on the brink of running amok next second...

The current crop of do-nothing know-it-alls here have the same ideas and hope to do the same things with us that your government has done for you, but they are a bit behind the curve, and none too bright yet besides - but they're bright enough to be dangerous. Check out the Competition Electronics chronograph when you decide to replace the deceased Chrony. It's a great unit. I have yet to shoot mine! :D (Fingers-crossed)

So I take the liberty of being politically incorrect and getting rid of malfunctioning technical devices the old fashioned way... Just kidding, it was simply a bad aimed shot at a distance you should not use a Chrony. Usually, as an experienced bullseye shooter I set my groups a little bit higher ;)

I'm Swede and German and I shot my Chrony too! I did it with a scoped rifle(5.56mm) by failing to hold high enough. That Chrony achieved significant velocity as it chased my bullet downrange.

I'm proud of you for persevering in your hobby in spite of anti-gun pressure.

BTW....if you have to shoot a wild boar, use a very hard bullet. Their skull is not only thick but slopes so a soft bullet might bounce off.

Ouch, that's rough!

Last year I had a group of guys at my range and one of them had a chrono. Everybody was enjoying using it with the exception of one shooter who steadfastly refused. He was worried about shooting it. We rode him mercilessly until he folded. He shot the chrono on the very first round. I like to think we all learned something valuable that day.

Before I owned a chrono, I used a guy's chrono he brought to a match so people could check their major loads. Another person ran up and asked if he could try it. The owner said yes but implored him not to shoot the chrono. The guy said "Yes SIR" and promptly shot the chrono with his first bullet!!!

Gee, I guess I was over-gunned when I used a 44 mag to "just slightly nick" my original Chrony. Hmmm. 200 gr going about 1200 fps does make a rather a mess of one. I did learn that Chrony did give trade in value "regardless of condition". I forget how much they allowed me on a Beta model, but it was worth it.

What's the deal with chrono's and .44's??

I shot a piece off a friend's chrono while testing some loads with my 24-3. And then he did the same with a model 25. LOL

if you ask me: magnetic backside if you use a larger diameter than .401

I guess I'm happy that I could chrono some loads before I send it to Chrony Heaven (or Hell), first shot kill would have caused me some trouble with my editor...

Another way to make hotter loads, just add another zero to the reading.
