Yes, it is a very sad day for the lovers of that wonderful Green Bean Bean Casserole


"This Thanksgiving, make sure to include a word of thanks for Dorcas Reilly. After all, she most likely will be at the table in spirit. Reilly is credited with creating green bean casserole, that creamy concoction of green beans, cream of mushroom soup and crunchy fried onions that is a quintessential holiday side dish."

It always amazed me that at a time of making all those great Homemade Specialties, that folks would take a can of green beans, a can of Campbells sodium mushroom soup. mix it with a can of french fried onions and put that on the table.


Right up there with a frozen pie, and canned cranberries!

Along with disgusting "fruit salad" of canned mixed fruit and cool-whip, maybe some tiny marshmallows for "decor"

I know a fellow who makes one for thanksgiving and Christmas every year and hauls it to his extended familys' gatherings.I hadn't seen one since I was a kid!!

We're not much on GBC. Our traditional green dish is collards.

Now, as to frozen pies and canned cranberry sauce, I'll take all ya got.

I like green beans, I like mushroom soup. It really is not hard to make the dish out of fresh green beans, real mushrooms and a cream sauce.


Like cranberry's, put whole berries in a pot, add some sugar and water,heat it up. Done.


May as well buy Mrs Smiths Pies and get a store cooked turkey or ham.
Wonder Bread for rolls!

My cousin Emily brings the green bean casserole and I bring the stuffed mushrooms.

I make mashed potato casserole and whole berry cranberry sauce.. Both are easy and always come out good... Some folks like the canned cranberry sauce and that's ok, they bring it and enjoy. Everyone's happy that way [emoji4]

Sad state of affairs when people rate a family gathering on the food served.
Vienna wieners and Saltines would suffice when folks gather around our table.
